Synopsis: Mayor Johnston ,
Jake and
Eric get a glimpse of what has gone on in the surrounding areas and discover that, since the explosions took place, the world outside Jericho has changed immensely. Meanwhile,
Gray interrogates the
Hawkins family about their mysterious arrival.
Johnston's life hangs in the balance when he comes down with a bad case of the flu, and it is up to Jake and Eric to save him by traveling to another town to get the medicine he desperately needs.
Episode recap: The trip to Rogue River:Jake decides it's best to take the back roads after seeing a car on the road with what appears to be a dead woman on the ground. Eric is upset that Jake will not stop the car, but Jake feels that it could be too dangerous to take the chance. Upon arriving in Rogue River, they find the town to be completely deserted. Outside the hospital, there are flyers all over the ground telling the residents of Rogue River that the water table has been contaminated from the fallout and to not drink from their taps. As Jake and Eric head for the main entrance to the hospital, they come under fire by an unknown gunman. After they enter the hospital, they are horrified to see dead bodies everywhere, including members of what appears to be the military , but in reality are members of a mercenary group known as
Ravenwood.

On the stairs, they find Randy Payton, a Ravenwood merc, who has been injured, pointing his rifle at them. Jake proceeds to tell Payton that he himself was in Iraq and worked for one of the military 'contractors' over there.
Payton then seems to trust Jake, lowers his weapon and takes them to see "the Doc" (
Dr. Kenchy Dhuwalia) to get the medicine they need for their father,. While still in the hospital, they hear trucks outside and race to the window to discover that Ravenwood has returned to clean out the hospital. After an ingenious plan -- involving Eric dressed as a doctor -- to escape the hospital, Jake and Eric get away with the medicine they need and the doctor. Payton was killed inside the hospital as he bravely covered for Jake after admitting his culpability in the deaths of many of the patients that had been deemed too injured to move and the doctors who were trying to save them. Jake and Eric finally make it back to Jericho just in time to administer the antibiotic to Mayor Green. Before heading off to bed, Eric discovers that he left his jacket back in Rogue River. His wallet was in the jacket and now Ravenwood has it. Jake, being the hero he is, tells Eric not to worry about it. The last scene shows Jake at dusk, standing watch.
April's & Eric's secrets revealed:April reveals to Mayor Johnston that she is pregnant, and Gail overhears from the doorway. Later in the show, Eric confesses to Jake that he loves the bartender,
Mary, and plans to leave April.
Making Ice:While waiting for Jake and Eric to arrive,
Emily and
Heather stay with the mayor and his wife. Eventually Heather comes up with a genius plan to make ice. Considering she's a teacher, Heather at first has confidence in herself. But when she tries, she finds that the water doesn't freeze and becomes frustrated ("Everyone's counting on me, and it's not working!"). Suddenly, though, she touches an aluminum bowl and notices that it's cold. Heather sees what she's done wrong, and they are able to succeed in making ice. When Jake and Eric arrive back home, Emily credits Heather with saving the mayor's life.
The Hawkins family interrogation:Hawkins' family is very on edge about the whole interrogation thing, but Hawkins plays it cool, and even lets
Jimmy search his secret basement. Jimmy discovers an FBI badge and he and Gray ask if it's real or not. Hawkins does not answer directly, but throws down the FBI onto the table. It makes a very loud, heavy thud. Hawkins says that most fake FBI badges are made of aluminum which would would be light and not make such a loud BANG sound. Seeing as this badge certainly is made of heavy metal, Gray and Jimmy believe Hawkins and leave him alone.
Questions:During the interrogation, Hawkins convinces
Gray Anderson that he is an undercover FBI agent. The
Morse code during the title sequence, however, suggests that this may be untrue. (

Quotes:Eric: What happened to you Jake?
Jake: What do you mean?
Eric: The last 5 years. Where were you? I'm assuming Jail. Why won't you tell me?
Jake: Why does it matter?
Eric: Because all that time, I stood and I watched mom and dad suffer. Every time the phone rang, they thought it was you. I used to hate calling the house, because we sound the same on the phone. I couldn't stand them realizing it was only me.
Jake: Sorry. Alright? I'm sorry for what I did to our family. But don't use me as an excuse for not getting on with your life
Jimmy: Hey pal, whatcha drawing?
Sam: My old house.
Gray: Oh yeah? Well, where is that?
Sam: I'm hungry.
Jimmy: Well, you know what. As soon as we're finished talking, maybe your mom will give you some of that pie.
Sam: I want it now!
Gray: Well in a few
Sam: Now! I'm hungry.
Hawkins: He gets a little cranky when he's hungry.
Gray: Yeah, I see that.
Trivia:The last scene of the episode shows a silhouette of Jake holding a rifle on his knee in front of a set of windows. According to the producers, this is their favorite shot so far in the series.
