(-... .-.. --- --- -.. ... .... . -..)Episode recap:
This was a look back to before the bombs had dropped and what people were doing and how they ended up in Jericho when they did. The episode starts 36 hours before the bombings.
Jake is inside a hangar. A man is showing him the company's aiplanes. He says Jake is an
Embry-Riddle grad (that's an aeronautical university with campi in Florida and Arizona), is a licensed ATP (Airline Transport Pilot), has 1600 certified FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) hours. The man remarks Jake's clearly well qualified.
Jake replies "Flying is in my blood. I started working on my grandpa's crop duster when I was 10."
The man explains that the company charters exclusively to top executives and celebrety clients, and they require absolute discretion. And they find out as much as they can about the people applying for jobs in their crew. He says according to Jake's Visa records, he's spend some time in the milice over the last couple of years. "14 months in Afghanistan, 6 in Iraq" says Jake, where he worked for an independent contractor. Then the man says the State Department has Jake flagged as a person of interest.
"I'm an interesting guy" is Jake's answer. The man stares at him, waiting for a better explanation.
"There was an incident. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time." The man pressures him for more information, but Jake is reluctant to even reveal which contractor he was working for. He chooses his secret over the job.
In Washington D.C. Hawkins is watching the news, which states the President is to address the nation the next day while his aproval ratings are plunging into the 20s, and working on his computer. A woman called Sarah comes from behind him, turns off the TV and kisses him. He says "I've already been summoned, Sarah. They want me in position." She says it's good news, and asks "Are we talking locally or back to the farmland?"
"I'm still waiting to hear," answers Hawkins. She congratulates and kisses him. He then states it was her idea. She says when "they" recruted her, she thought she was prepared for just about anything, but nothing like this. Hawkins says "That's because nothing like
this has ever happened before." The phone rings, and Hawkins says "This is it."
We then see a line of trucks going into a facility. There we see bombs inside them. They're being armed. Some man are being handed envelopes. We hear a man saying "This is the moment we've been waiting for. All the devices have been secured. The other cells are receiving their instructions as we speak. The target cities have been confirmed. Your routes have been scouted and cleared. We're ready. The strike will go off tomorrow at precisely 8.05 eastern. Take a look around you gentlemen. These are the faces of the men who will change the world."
Hawkins is one of those men. Inside the envelope are money, keys, a map, and the name of the target for each man. Hawkins' city is Columbus, Ohio.
In Jericho everything is normal, kids are playing in the streets. It's 33hs before the bombings, and Eric wants the Mayor to enter Jericho in a contest from USA Today. Eric thinks it can attract voters for the elections that are coming in a month, but the Mayor is confident he'll beat Gray Anderson just by doing his job. Gail walks in with April, who's there to give Johnston a check-up. Aparently there's a bad cold going around, and Gail says he's not been feeling well for almost a week. This is the cold that almost killed him in another episode.
Jake is in San Diego. He's walks into a bar and tells a friend, Freddy, his lucky tie didn't work. Freddy reads a classified ad looking for a driver with military experience plus travel opportunities. Jake says he needs a job. Freddy says he's driver. He's a pilot, "a freaking good one." He answers "Right now all I am is broke."
Freddy wants to fix Jake up with one of his fiancee's sisters, "unless you're still hung up with that farm girl back in Iowa."
"Kansas", Jake corrects him.
Sarah is on Hawkins' computer. On the screen we see "FINAL LIST OF INTENDED TARGETS," and files with names such as A34, 9283, I54, 82, 0. She enters the file G:/019.0. The phone rings. It's Hawkins. He says "Sarah, the schedule's changed. It's happening tomorrow during the president's address. I'll be there as soon as I can but there's something I need to take care of. You get everything together and I'll meet you as soon as I can." He's going to get his kids. She tries to tell him there isn't enough time, but he hangs up. On the computer screen we see a list of cities and their coordinates. They're Washington DC, Philadelphia, LA, NY, Denver, Dallas, St Louis, Chicago, and more seem to be coming up.
Jake congratulates Freddy's fiancee. He's to be their best man. Freddy tells him he's got some more good news. He has a job for Jake. 8 weeks, US$100k, all cash. It's cargo run. "Quick in, quick out, 30 up front, 70 when it's done." It's in Afghanistan. Jake refuses. He says he can't go back there after all they've seen and done.
Emily is at home with Roger. He invites her to come to Chicago with him for one night, she agrees, even though she had to work.
Jake's at home when Freddy's fiancee knocks on the door. She's worried Freddy's in over his head with something. She says some guys started coming around, "like soldiers, but not." They came again after Jake left. They gave Freddy a black eye, and he told her he was going away for 2 months, and she shouldn't try to find him, and that he didn't have a choice. She wants Jake to help him. She knows what he did for Jake in Iraq, and that he owes Freddy his life.
Hawkins has the kids in his truck, and he tells Darcy to decide whether she wants to come with them, or never see them again.
It's 30hs before the bombings. Jake tells Freddy he's in. Jake asks who the job's for. Freddy says it doesn't matter who. That they know Jake and his reputation. Jake's not going anywhere until he knows. Freddy says it's a branch of Ravenwood. Jake will meet them the next day, before they board on the plane.
Mimi Clark walks into Mary's bar. The stools are all taken. Stanley sees her and stands up, giving her his stool. He tries talking to her, but he replies rudly "Can you please not talk to me?"
At the Greens' residence, Gail's put Johnston on a new diet. His blood pressure results were too high. He claims it's because of the elections, and she tells him to drop the race. She says when he took office, he made 2 oaths. One to the city, and one to her. He'd never let the job come before her or the kids. She wants to spend more time with him.
In Jake's apartment, there are men waiting for him. One of them is Agent Hicks. He says Jake's name popped up on an international passenger manifest. He says Jake's name is not on a no-fly list
yet, but maybe they work out a deal. He opens a file with a pile of pictures of dead people surrounded by military. He says "You're about to get into bed with some very bad people, Jake. Lucky for you, your timing is perfect. We're looking to nail Ravenwood." Jake asks if they killed the people in the pictures. "They've been running weapons since the start of the war. They'll sell arms to anybody. Even our enemies. We need someone working for us that they'll consider credible." Jake asks why would he say yes. "Because you know first hand what they're capable of." answers Hicks, while pulling from the pile a photo Freddy giving Jake the money for the job on the pier.
Hawkins goes back to his apartment to get Sarah and sees signs of struggle. He pulls his gun out and starts searching the place. No one is there. He calls her cell, only to find it on the bed next to him. He takes the computer and leaves.
The police come after Darcy had called them from her son's phone. They pull their guns and tell Hawkins to drop the case (laptop). They tell him to open the back of the truck. They see the bomb. Darcy starts honking. One of the policemen goes to the front, and the other tries to handcuff Hawkins, but is overpowered. While the first man tries to open the door, Hawkins comes from behind and hits him.
24hs before the bombings, Eric and Johnston meet at Bailey's. The Mayor asks Eric if he decided not to run, would Eric take his place. Eric says he intends on using his law degree some day. Johnston tells him to think about it.
Jake tells Freddy that the cargo they're supposed to transport are missiles sold to the insurgent, and that "they'll be used against our own guys." He tells him the Feds are onto it, and they want them to help. Jake tells Freddy to get Anna and the money. They'll meet that night and run. "If they come after us, at least we'll have a head start.
Emily and Roger are on the street in Jericho. Roger tells Emily that the meeting in Chicago isn't just a meeting. It's the final interview for a job. He wanted her to see the city, and hopefully fall in love with it. Emily's answer is "You're a jerk." She says he's sellfish, and that when he proposed she told him she didn't want to move. She tells him she's not getting on that plane, and if he decides to take the job, he shouldn't come back.
The Hawkins family arrive in their new home in Jericho. Hawkins locks the door after they get inside. There are boxes everywhere. Darcy sends the kids upstairs, and tells Hawkins "Come tomorrow I will have you arrested."
He says "But you know, come tomorrow a whole lot of things will be different."
Jake is packing when someone knocks. It's Freddy. He's been shot by Ravenwood. He asks Jake to find Anna and get them on that bus.
12hs before the bombs, Jake is with Anna in the bus station. Freddy is dead. He gives Anna his cut of the money. He tells her to use it for the baby. He puts her on a bus to Houston.
Gail is on the computer researching Paris. Johnston says he hates France. He then tells her to book the trip for Christmas. "What the hell, book one for Italy, too." The phone rings. It's Jake.
Roger leaves a message for Emily saying his home is where she is. He didn't go to the interview. He's flying back that night.
Mimi Clark tells Stanley she works for the IRS, and he owes more than 180.000 dollars in back taxes.
Hawkins sends a message to Sarah from his computer. It says "Assuming you have been compromised. If able, proceed directly to rally point to reconvene." We then see the TV. The president's address is about to begin. Hawkins gets a video chat request. It's Sarah. She has bruises on her face. She says "Robert. You need to deliver the package." He says "Negative. Where are you?" Someone wearing a ski mask grabs her from behind and another masked man sits in front of the computer. He says "Deliver the bomb or she dies." They lose satellite connection. We hear a window breaking. Darcy has a gun. Just as Hawkins takes it from her, the kids call her from outside.
Something's happened.
The bombs went off.
Back to 8 weeks after the bombs and the strangers who came into Jericho at the end of the previous episode.
Emily rushes to Roger. He's dirty and hasn't shaved for weeks. He doesn't say a word. They take everyone into Bailey's and give them water and blankets. Jake asks Roger if there's anyone else out there, so they can send a search party. 22 men and 32 women is the answer.
Roger tells Emily they waited on that field for 2 days after their plane went down and no one came. Eventually he went for help, and ended up in a refugee camp in Nebraska. Most of the people with him were from there.
April arrives and Mary hands her a list of the injured. She takes it without saying anything.
Emily tries to say something to Jake, but he interrupts her, saying "Go. He's gonna need you."
April is talking to someone. "Do you have a place to stay? Do you know anyone in Jericho?" It's Sarah. She's come with the others.
She answers "Actually, I do"
Quotes:(Stanley and Mimi in Bailey's)Stanley: "Seat's all yours. I hate sitting when I have money on a game." (Stanley looks up at TV screen. His team wins the baseball game.) Stanley: "YES! YES! Yes. Ha,
Mary Bailey, you owe me five bucks. PAY UP!!!" (Turns to Mimi.) "Better yet...drink on me?"
Mimi: Don't waste your money, I have an expense account." (Orders drink. Turns to Stanley.) Mimi: (annoyed): "Did you know it is three hour cab ride from the airport out to this little town?"
Stanley: "Scenic, though, ain't it?"
Mimi: "If you like corn."
Stanley: "Well, now, who doesn't like corn? I mean, you got corn on the cob, cornflakes, corn nuts, corn dogs, corn-sickles."
Mimi: "Corn-sickles?!!"
Stanley: "......It's a joke, lady."
Mimi: "Can you not talk to me, please?"
Stanley: "....corn, corn chips..."
Mimi (sharply): Seriously: DON'T TALK TO ME."
(Refugees come into town)Jake: Is anyone else out there?
Roger: 21 men; 32 women.
Jake: Okay, thanks.
Jake: (looks at Emily with concern for not only Roger but for her. You can tell he has a lot of feelings for her)
Jake: How is he?
Emily: I think he's in shock.
Emily: Look Jake, um...
Jake: Go. He'll need you.
Sarah and Hawkins(Giving Hawkins a wide eyed, meaningful look...)
Sarah: ...nothing could have prepared me for this.
And Hawkins is either dumb, playing dumb or he's a MAN, because he starts to tell her that what they are doing, no one could possibly prepare for, the bombings, in other words...what a dunce.
Lucky for him the phone rings.
So be careful Hawkins:
"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned."Please feel free to add more quotes from this episode.

Questions for next episode:Why was Sara in the Video Chat and how did she end up on the airplane and no longer a hostage?
I don't think this group of people are from the airplane Roger was on. This is some group of people travelling together on foot that probably don't have very much in common except that they were stranded by the attacks.
Q: Why were those people asking Jake to help them take down Ravenwood?
A: Those people are agents of the US Federal Government. They have been watching Ravenwood. They know that Jake is going to do a job for them in Afghanistan. They have information about Jake and some possible wrongdoing or illegal activity he was involved in while overseas. they use that info to pressure Jake into turning spy for them.
Q: Do you think Emily will continue to show interest in Jake or stay with Roger (anyone can answer)?
A: Yes and she'll stay with Roger until Roger leaves her. I think that he's going to leave her in the end. He had that supernatural or spiritual experience on the road and he's not going to remain the investment banker Yuppie he was before the attacks. they'll have even less in common than they did before. She realized on her wedding day that their relationship wasn't based on anything deep. Now with Jake she has history and hormones, and if she gets to keep the house, she's all set up.
Trivia:Q: Who is the
mystery woman that appears with the air plane passengers at the end of the episode?
A: She seemed to have been involved with Hawkins
It's definitely Sarah, Hawkins' confederate/girl friend from Washington D.C.
Did anyone notice Jakes jacket was buttoned then unbuttoned then buttoned again during the same scene at the beginning of the show? Oops we missed that one!Guest stars:
