The nation being divided into 6 parts reminds of the game Shattered Union. Has anybody here played that game?

Now that we've seen episode 16, I wonder: Did Heather's friend and his companions ever say just why they were in BlackJack that day? They showed up with that gas guzzling huge truck?
WHY? |

I agree with first comment!
LAME is how to best describe the conspiracy plot. Who came up with this plan, howler monkeys? They have a bunch of very expensive nukes. And the best plan they can come up with to achieve stealthy delivery, is having each with highly-trained and completely-informed operative acting as truck-driving flunky? Some of whom undoubtedly like Hawkings have children that they might want to protect? With the drivers apparently being aware of what is in the truck, and a list of targets, able to betray them at any time? The concept of compartmentalization and need to know doesn't seem to exist in this amazingly inept plot. Even recent terrorist plots, those planners know you need to have 2 or 3 people in your suicide team so they reinforce each other and so no single person is given a chance for last-minute change of heart and betrayal. A cult leader might think this is a brilliant operational plan, anyone vaguely professional would say it's bound to fail. Yet in the world of Jericho this ridiculous plot is apparently completely successful except for Hawkins delivery. In reality the 5-minute bit at the beginning of "War Games" is most likely outcome. A large number of hardened soldiers trained to push that button, would I think change their minds on prospect of becoming a real mass-murderer of their fellow citizens and possibly their own relatives. The "old man" is maybe Charles Manson, babbling in his cell? The UnaBomber? Only on TV would a bunch of writers imagine a group of highly-trained professional conspirators coming up with something that is this LAME!

To those of you who think the morse code is actually something like Bleediu KS I have this to say. How does that even make since? Bleediu KS, what the heck. Bleeding KS makes since because 1. Jericho is in KS, 2. We see those blood covered beds in the crazy seller's tent and 3. The previous code mentioned bloodshed (Ex. between the six regions) maybe it will happen in Jericho. Until someone can explain Bleediu KS I will believe in my theory.

Check out this Link http://signal.baldwincity.com/section/black_jack/story/5302
What is it? A story of the 1856 Battle of Blackjack in Kansas! You really have to read the whole thing to get the irony of the slaves in the shop...and the use of "Old Man"! "There were three key events that led to the Battle of Black Jack. The times were wild, violent and far-ranging. Rumors were rampant. Newspapers on both sides of the slavery issue had different accounts of what was going on.....But, when the moons aligned, it was time for the first battle of the soon-to-be Civil War......That's when Brown decided to take matters into his own hands. They headed on horseback to Franklin County and launched what would become known as the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre. The area wasn't far from Brown's home in Osawatomie. His thought was the pro-slavery men along the creek would be gunning for him......"He knew if he didn't kill them, they would kill him," Day said......."It was a brutal massacre of five political people," she said. "They had defensive wounds. Their hands got whacked off. Only one shot was fired. It was done with swords in a very biblical way."....."It is a big part of why I will study the area's history until the day I die," she said. "I will never know it all to my satisfaction. It tastes good every time I chew on it. The lessons learned enrich my life. I mean, who would believe Henry Clay Pate's, ‘I went to take Old Brown, but Old Brown took me.' In other words, look out for the old guy."....." See the pattern? The shows name and the battle, slavery then and now, the "old guy" and the "Old Man"!

How come they can't use some that corn to make fuel ? to add to the fuel they haave to make it stretch?
And what about biodisel--that's not hard to make if you have the ingredients. w why aren't families moving in together for the nights to save fuel? one dorm is easier to heat than every one in his own house. |

Maybe someone else has thought of this...or maybe I'm a little off. Here goes anyway.
In the day before, Hawkins is seen with a group of men who are handed orders presumably to deliver the nuclear weapons and detonate them....according to Hawkins orders, he was to be sent to Dayton, OH. He is heard on the phone, on his way out, that the timetable had been moved up and the time to detonation is the same day, not 5 days later. Hawkins grabs his kids and Ex and leaves for Jericho with the bomb in the truck. According to Sarah last night, Jericho is the rally point and she's been sent to ferret out Hawkins and reclain the undetonated nuke. Question: Could Hawkins really be FBI and have been in the cell undercover, but unable to do anything because of the advanced timetable? or was he a bad-guy with a change of heart? I tend to think the former, or at least some off shoot, because of his unwillingness to set off his bomb, but instead heading to the final destination. I must admit the suspense and mystery surrounding Hawkins is driving me mad.

In this episode, it is revealed that someone known as "The Old Man" is watching Hawkins and is ordering Sarah to dispose of him. This makes us think "The Old Man" is behind this. However at the end of the episode when Sarah is talking to him again. HE asked HER "How should we proceed?" Could Sarah be the real leader and not "The Old Man"??? I wonder.......

Just an observation? Could it be possible that the New Capital Cities are controlled by the Men that were profiled or shown in "The Day Before"? When Hawkins is handed his target city, there are 5 or 6 guys in that lineup. The man handing out the assignments says "take a look around, these are the faces of the men who will change the world"...

Aforce2008 has a good point about overseas military. But not just U.S. forces. Okay, so some allies may have dropped food in addition to China's drops. And the EU and China, and most other nations, must love that the U.S. might not put itself back together and might wind up as a few smaller nations. But, wouldn't there be a massive humanitarian relief effort? It's not like the U.S. is without airports for cargo flights. True, Jericho, KS might not be the first destination for relief efforts -- but what about re-establishing a communication system. HAM radio anybody? Think the Germans could pull that off? Or Canada. Okay Canada and Mexico might have their hands full keeping refugees from overwhelming their borders -- but couldn't they get a continent-wide comm system in place in 2 months? Someone's got sattelites able to check in on Jericho backyards, and nobody can put together a national broadcasting system?

It's nice to see it pick up a little pace with all of last season just stuck in some small midwest town was torture. And the start of this season with drawn out rerun episode made me wounder what they have for writers on this show. Maybe it will pick up a little, but I dont know with the entire episode centered around getting this part for the windmill that they never got.
just a thought |

So why would the trader have a torture chamber with enough beds for 20 people?
I might be missing somehting, but it seems that this whole torture chamber thing is left to speculations. (thought it seems like a Pulp Fiction rip-off)
