Episode summary:
"As winter grips Jericho, evidence of hundreds of refugees traveling south is found; Hawkins and Sarah make an alarming discovery; Jake, Stanley and Mimi run afoul of marauders." -TV guide



Episode recap:
Winter is beginning and the cold is becoming a problem. Jake, Stanley and Mimi go out in a pickup truck, using the little diesel they can spare in order to go out further from Jericho for food. Stanley takes Mimi because he feels that she needs to learn to shoot and hunt.

Emily pays a visit to the shelter housing the plane refugees. Roger is there and Emily finds out that the refugees see Roger as their leader and that Roger sees himself that way. He tells Emily that he has an obligation to these people because he led them to Jericho.

Hawkins and Sarah leave to go take out the man they believe to be in charge, who they believe is hunting them for the "package." Upon arrival at his house, as we see an observer with a gun watching them, they enter and find their target dead. Jumping on the opportunity to go through all of the computer equipment, they discover that several of their team (Woodworth, Wood, Ritts, and Pierce), their co-conspirators, have been "terminated" while the other few are classified "location unknown," including Hawkins, Mason, Chavez and Miller. Is the hunter one of these people?

Approximately 10 miles out of Jericho (per Jake's calculation), they encounter a truck barricading the road. Jake tells Stanley to turn their truck around, and they begin to head back towards Jericho. The other truck follows them and Jake tries to shoot at it to force it to stop following them. The truck forces them off the road, capsizing Stanley's truck. Mimi is unharmed, while Stanley's ankle is injured (and he is temporarily knocked unconscious) and Jake's leg is caught underneath the truck. The men from the other truck plunder everything from the back of their pickup, while Mimi hides, though Jake had thrown a few bottles of water and a flashlight into the grass. Jake's gun had gotten just out of reach. The men leave them, presumably for dead, not that there was anything they could do otherwise (why waste the bullets?).

The cold continues and it begins to snow. Mimi, as the only one capable of walking, is sent to try to meet the patrol about 5 miles out of Jericho. Jake and Stanley are left in the cold, and Stanley attempts to keep Jake awake. Mimi finds the 5-mile marker as she begins to give up hope, and then sees a truck coming down the road. Though she dives off to the side to hide (as Stanley warned her to, just in case), Jake's parents are in the truck, and Mimi goes with them back to Stanley and Jake. Gail takes Stanley and Mimi back to Jericho to return with more help. Johnston stays with Jake and tries to keep him awake and warm.

Hawkins realizes that their current situation is a set-up and identifies their true hunter. Why would they leave this house standing if they were trying to eliminate all evidence of the conspiracy? We see the observer in the house behind the corner, listening, as Hawkins decides that the 'package' must be moved. Also, his family's safety is at stake (as seen in photographs on the computer he finds of others who were terminated), and Hawkins decides that they must move. Because Hawkins never gives the location of the package, and he knows and announces that he has leverage, because their hunters will do anything to get it (furthering the risk his family is in), as Hawkins and Sarah leave the house with whatever they scavenged, the observer does not kill him.

Jake and Johnston wait in the cold, as Jake struggles to maintain consciousness. Jake tells his father that he sees 'her.' Then he talks about being in Iraq and the 10- or 12-year-old girl that he killed there. Help arrives, and they lift the truck off Jake's leg, freeing him. They go back to Jericho and warm Jake up. Fortunately for him, neither leg was broken.

Once back at the Greens' house, Johnston asks Gail and April to leave him with Jake. In one of the most powerful scenes, Jake asks his father to forget what he'd told him before; Johnston says to Jake that he's seen what things men do in war, seen what they do to each other, and he's there when Jake's ready to talk. Jake collapses into tears. Johnston presses a kiss to his head and tells Jake he'll be ready when Jake is ready.

Stanley and Mimi are seen leaving Jericho Medical, where they kiss. His lips are cold, and says maybe she "can warm them up." Very nice pick-up line, I must add. She laughs at his corniness.

Hawkins and Sarah return to his house, see the lights out, and are afraid something may have happened. Darcy comes downstairs and announces that the kids are sleeping. Hawkins and his wife begin a discussion of when they left Washington, DC, before the bombs, reminding her how he had said that they were in danger but couldn't tell her how, while Sarah says she is going for a walk. Hawkins says that they have to move again. This time his wife says that he is correct, but he is going to go by himself. (She also reminds him that Sarah is not on their side.)

Sarah is seen in an an alleyway where she comes face to face with the man we know to be the observer (and suspiciously looks like the man Hawkins identified as their hunter) of the house she and Hawkins had been to. He asks if she has the location of the package. She says no (though she may have seen it in his basement in "Black Jack"). He asks why this time is taking more time. She responds with a quick maneuver, getting behind the man, twisting his head to break his neck. As he falls, she says, "because this time is different."

In their hunt for food, Jake, Mimi and Stanley encounter a field that has been trampled down by feet. Also in this field are various bits of trash that point to humans -- and at least one person who froze to death inside a sleeping bag.

Okay, so this episode was like the most touching episode since the first one. It was all about Stanley! (Well, not really, but he played a major role.) Stanley holding Jake and trying to keep him from freezing...all that friend/sacrifice stuff! And part of Jake's past revealed, about that girl., that was cool/sad. I am so into Stanley I can imagine all his thoughts and what's going through his head.
I know this has already been touched on, but I wanna expand.

Mimi and Stanley walked out of the med center, Stanley on crutches. Mimi was so relieved; the nightmare of yesterday and last night was at last over. And Stanley was okay. She took a breath of fresh air and laughed, for no other reason than joy.

"Are you okay?" Stanley asked. He knew she must have had a hard time.

"Yeah," was her simple reply. "How's the sprain?"

"I think it'd be better with pain killers, but I won't complain," Stanley smiled. "...you know, for a while there, I didn't think I was ever gonna feel anything again."

Mimi nodded. "When I was out there," she told him, "just for a moment, I stopped...to rest, and then...I just didn't wanna move." She sniffled a little bit, glad to vent to somebody.

"But you did," Stanley replied comfortingly; "you did make it. And I knew you would." He kissed her.

Mimi smiled awkwardly. She put her finger forward and gently touched his lips. "Your lips are still cold," she said softly.

Stanley nodded. "Hey...maybe you can warm them."

Mimi smiled. "That's the worst line I've ever heard."

"I know," Stanley said. "I got others."

Mimi leaned on him. "Shut up," she told him gently.

"Okay," he replied.

Stanley: "Come on Jake, talk to me, you've been gone for five years. What was it like in San Diego?"
Jake: "Warm."
Stanley:"Yeah, so what were you doing there?"

Stanley:"Wait, what? You don't know that. I mean it all depends on where she was when the bombs went off, right?"
Jake:"She's dead and it's all my fault. Just let me lay down."
Stanley:"No Jake, it's not your fault. Come one, Jake, you got to stay with me."

Johnston:"They're gonna be here soon Jake, just hold on."
Jake:"Just leave me alone, dad."
Johnston:"No, I'm not going to leave you, son."
Jake:"I'm sorry, dad."
Johnston:"Jake, you've got nothing to be sorry for."
Jake:"I can see her."
Johnston:"See who?"
Jake: "The girl."
Johnston: "What girl? Son, I think you're hallucinating."
Jake: "When I was in Iraq. There was a girl. She couldn't have been more than ten or twelve."
Johnston: "Don't talk now son."
Jake: " I killed her, dad."

Jake: "Dad, what I told you, please forget it. Please."
Johnston: "I'm afraid I can't do that. Jake, I know how hard it is. I've been to war. And I'm here whenever you're ready to talk."
Jake: (falls apart in sobs)
Johnston: Whenever you're ready. Whenever you're ready."


Questions for next episode:

Q: Will Hawkins discover what Sarah has done?
A: probably! A guy with a broken neck doesn't look like a hypothermia victim...where is she planning to stash the body?
A2: We haven't seen Sarah leaving the body in the middle of a street - so she might have hidden it.

Q: Was the man Sarah killed the "Old Man" or was the "Old Man" the body in the house?
A: I think the "Old Man" was the man Sarah killed.
A2: And in my opinion the Old Man was the one whose body was found in house (but he had probably been killed by Sarah few days before) - Hawkins and Sarah were going to old man's place - and it looks, that the house was owned by the killed man. Discuss it here.
A3: Yes, the body inside the house was the "Old Man", one of the people Hawkins was working with in the CIA. The old man was killed by "the hunter" who was hunting down and killing all the members of the CIA team. As Victor Miller says, somebody tipped off the terrorists and thus was a traitor to the CIA team. Sarah and Hawkins think that "The Old Man" might be the traitor, so they move out to get rid of him. That's also why Hawkins says that they'll go to the Old Man's place, "and if, if he is behind this...we take him out." That's my theory. (Since "A.K.A, we think that the traitor was actually Thomas Valente, the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

Q:Will Jake and Johnston have that discussion or will they avoid it for another week?
A: I think that they will definitely have that discussion eventually but maybe not right away.

Q:Will Heather return with the windmill parts before the town freezes to death?
A:I hope so. Although she has been missing from a lot of the episodes lately so they might wait a while to bring her back, just to have a change in settings and characters.

Q:Morse code clue: How many men were found dead by Sarah and Hawkins?
A:the answer is 4 but does that include victor what was his last name?
A2: Miller. He's on list with "Whereabouts unknown" annotation.
Q: Did Hawkins tell Sarah that Victor Miller made it to Jericho and died there??
A:Yes. Sarah asks Robert who else has made it to the rally point. Hawkins tells here Victor made it but died from the radiation, at which point she responds with "Did you kill him..."

Q:Would the man Sarah murders be the fourth?
A: doubtful; he looked like an assassin of sorts
A2: If he was then has to be Mason, Chavez or Chaung.

Q:Are there 8 people in each terror cell?
Q2: Are people from team terrorists? Hawkins did not deliver the package.
A:i believe that these 8 people are/were trying to infiltrate the terror cell and each have a bomb(package) that they never detonated why else kill them it not like there is much for law out there no need to cover your tracks

Q: The man in the alley asked Sarah why this time is taking more time. Implying that this isn't the first time. What other times is he referring to? And since her response is to kill him, are they talking about other killings?
A: he said with the others meaning the other team members. After she was captured she must have agreed to let her go and she must have agreed because she felt betrayed by Hawkins. So she helps the other guys kill the rest and when she finally meets up with Hawkins she can't and thats why she said. "This one is different" after she kills the assassin.
A2: I believe that Sarah's kidnapping was set up by Sarah and perhaps the old man because maybe they figured out that Hawkins was not going to deliver his package and that he may be betraying them.
A3: I think that Sarah was a double agent. The CIA thought she was working for them running Hawkins and Valente turned her or she was working for him all the time, and she was giving him info. The hunter/observer she kills thought that she was on his side, Valente. I'm pretty sure that Valente is the "old Man".

Q: In this episode when Jake, Stanley, And Mimi are being chased by the other truck, the other truck could not be running because when the EMP happened, that truck would have had its electronics affected by the pulse and would be unable to start.
A: There are no indications that all of the US or all of Kansas was affected by the EMP. Also, trucks like this one can be customized by military contractors to meet military systems EMP-Proofing standards.
A2: In reviewing the previews for episode 15, Jericho is about to be added back to the "grid", assumable the power grid. It is possible to rebuild items after the EMP. Look at BLACKJACK, new components are being built, like the power regulator needed for the windmill.

Q: In one of the previews for the next episode (Semper Fidelis) it shows Jake kissing a girl that has not been seen in any previous episodes. From one of the on line talk shows they said that a girl named Maggie will show up in Semper Fidelis and I'm guessing that is the same girl. Where did she meet Jake at and were they still together when the bombs went off?
A: Maggie was not with Jake when the bombs went off. Remember in the pilot, Jake is driving out of Jericho en route back to San Diego. Jake hasn't even met Maggie yet.

Q2: I take "were they still together" to mean "still dating/in a relationship"...
A: Maggie doesn't come onto the story until the next episode 1.15. Jake didn't know her before she shows up in Jericho in that episode. They don't date and they don't have a "relationship".
