Summary: The deadly Hudson River virus hits the area and a vaccine is being withheld from the citizens by a government official. Jake and the Rangers find a way to protect Jericho. - tv.com

Episode recap:

The episode begins with Dale out in trading business. While trying to pick up some supplies from Missouri, he comes across a road that is blocked by the military. The town on the other side was quarantined after an outbreak of Hudson River virus.

Back in Jericho, Major Beck introduces the Ravenwood administrator--our old buddy Goetz!
Jake tried to pull a gun on Goetz to arrest him but Beck stops him. The crimes of Ravenwood during the "lawless period" are disbelieved and totally ignored. (Ravenwood, by the way, is an offshoot of J and R.) In a deliberate act to belittle and shame him, Goetz reminds Jake of what he did in the Iraqi village of Saffa. Jake is apparently stunned and says nothing.

Meanwhile Jimmy is back on duty after being hospitalized for over a month. When he sees the wanted posters of Sarah Mason, he tells Beck that she is somehow connected with Hawkins. Darcy overhears and tells Hawkins all she heard. Robert then confronts Major Beck and, claiming to be FBI, says that Beck is ruining his terrorist investigation. Beck points out that Hawkins is not registered with Cheyenne as FBI, and Hawkins lies that his bosses are situated in Columbus and he will surrender Sara to them. When Beck warns that this is treason, Hakwins replies that he's more interested in catching a dangerous terrorist than in playing politics. He offers his help to find Sara. As he tells Jake later, Hawkins' fate depends on whether Beck is willing to learn the truth about the Cheyenne government, or report Hakwins to Valente. Beck does not accept or decline Hawkins' offer yet.

Jake feels it is his place to tell Eric that Ravenwood is really a threat. He tells Eric that he worked for J and R / Ravenwood. After he and his colleagues killed some Iraqi gunmen and bystanders (including "the girl" mentioned 1.14 Heart of Winter) there were no repercussions. Ravenwood was let off the hook like it was above the law. As he tells this story, Jake has a hard time keeping his emotions together.

Dale, having just returned, unloads supplies not only from nearby trading posts but from the black market. With his goods are vaccines for the Hudson River Virus, which are soon apprehended by Goetz. The vaccines may be contaminated and must be destroyed, he says.

The Jennings and Rall agent Trish informs Bonnie of the growing opportunities in Cheyenne. Bonnie considers going there.

Meanwhile Heather gets a radio message from a nurse named Christina who lives in a town not too far from Jericho. The town is suffering from the Hudson River Virus. Heather remains calm the whole time she speaks with Christina, even after she is told that the town has lost 220 people is the last week. Jake takes action immediately. He tells Emily to get Kenchy to inoculate the citizens of Jericho, and he would work on recapturing the vaccine. Now that the stunning interview with Christina is over, Heather is sitting at her desk in a shocked silence. As he leaves, Jake looks at her and says, "That...it's not gonna happen here!"

Eric tries to convince Trish to remove Goetz from his post, but she refuses. Emily gets Kenchy's help with vaccinating the town, and he orders 3000 syringes which Goetz sees as suspicious immediately. Meanwhile Heather complains to Beck about how Christina's town is not being taken care of. Beck avoids eye contact, but Heather stares him down and says, "Those people need help. They're not getting it." As she leaves Beck looks very upset and confused.

Hawkins gives Beck and Jimmy Sara's prints to prove that she killed John Doe in "1.14 Heart of Winter." Hawkins claims that he acquired the prints after exchanging fire with Mason.

Jake is getting ready to help steal the vaccines, but Hawkins tells Jake not to lose his badge because "you are my only eyes and ears in this place." (Beck ordered Hawkins wife, Darcy, to removed from the sheriff's office civilian staff once Beck learned they were married.) Despite this, Jake instructs Dale how to steal the vaccines. He does however warn Dale of the consequences. Soon the vaccines are taken and Emily, Dale and Jake prepare to administer the medicine. Kenchy is late, and it turns out that he has been caught by Goetz and forced to tell about the vaccine plan. (Poor Kenchy--he's scared to death of Goetz after seeing the hospital in Rogue River!)

Emily and Dale manage to escape with the vaccine, but Jake is caught and held at gunpoint by Goetz and his men. Before things get ugly, a message comes for Goetz saying that no vaccines had been stolen after all. A puzzled Jake is let free and keeps his role as sheriff.

At the Richmond farm, Bonnie tells Stanley about Cheyenne. She says she is not going, even if Stanley and Mimi are anxious to get rid of her. Stanley says he doesn't want to get rid of her--after all he gave up his promising football career to raise her--but if she wanted to go, feel free. Stanley says he stayed with Bonnie because he was so afraid he would lose her after he lost his parents. "How could such a little girl survive such a terrible crash?" he says. "But you did." Later Bonnie confides to Mimi that she wants to go Cheyenne, and she'll make Mimi a list of "how to take care of Stanley."

As the citizens are inoculated, Jake tells Eric that somebody changed the order list so it said no vaccines were missing. Eric says he has an idea about who changed the order: Trish. And he is right. She's seen at the end putting some documents about the movement of the vaccines through the shredder in the office

While this is happening, Heather comes to Beck. She has just heard that Christina's town received a load of vaccines. Heather thanks Beck for stepping out of league to help people. She says, "I'm just trying to understand you. You're a military man; military men follow orders." "They also have families," replies Beck. He explains that his wife went missing after the attacks. "I trust that where ever she is, some army Major is looking after her the way I try to look after the people under my charge."

Beck asks Valente if Sara had ever been employed by the US Government, and after a flat denial and a threat with losing his job, Beck accepts Hawkins' help. Hawkins found a code, translated it into a phone number, and calls expecting Cheung. (only the CIA agents knew the code.) The man who picks up is not Chueng, but somebody who Hawkins doesn't know.

"I know who you are," the stranger says. "I know what you're trying to do. And I want to help."
