I will more than gladly send a sympathy card to CBS/Paramount for Jericho.
Seldom does a show come along that has such a dedicated following. Seldom does a show come along that makes viewers think "How would I react in a similar situation?", "Am I prepared to survive should something like this happen in my country?"
I must ask myself if it was the quality of the show, the actual number of viewers, the time slot or was it something else entirely?
Did this show make people think too much about the fact that given our current circumstances as pertains to terrorist activities and "home grown terrorists", we stand a good chance of seeing something along these very lines happening?
I think the answer to that is a resounding yes.
With the quality of prime time television reduced to showing things like Big Brother, Dancing With The Stars et al,ad nauseum, it's no wonder people are turning more and more to other forms of entertainment such as allowing their children to sit for hours on end in front of their Wii or some other such pacifying game.
Such a pity to say goodbye to a once strong nation of survivors and fighters who withstood all the hardships of previous wars and worked united as one country to assure we had given our all to back our troops and our country.
This is the same country that sent women to work in factories, rationed all sorts of items and tightened our belts in our collective effort to stop the Hitler regime. Now we find ourselves surrounded by apathetic people who want nothing more than to have their bowl of popcorn or a delivered pizza while we plant ourselves in front of a TV set that sells sexual enhancers, constantly promotes age defying products and lambasts our government with damnation because we have to remove our shoes when we prepare to board an airplane.
We Americans have become a nation of lazy people. A people who want instant gratification in all things. If it isn't microwavable or some other such short cut, time saving, effort saving affair, we don't bother.
Ask yourselves why we find ourselves a nation of people who are overweight or psychiatrist seeking individuals for some form of depression or other.
Like sheep, we sit quietly by while other parts of the world make plans for our destruction and not only do we sit quietly by, we encourage it with our refusal to recognize the truth when faced with it. It's called apathy people! A lack of interest or concern also know as indifference. In other words, "someone else will deal with this or the government is to blame for all my problems".
Leagues of people now prefer to ignore facts and instead bind themselves to conspiracy theories and worse. Children commit acts of violence against other children and against their families and schools that were before unheard of and we ask ourselves why. I don't have all the answers to all the questions. I don't even know all the questions! But I do know this; the very people who prefer to sit in front of American Idol, Big Brother and other such disgusting pacifiers for the mind are destroying what their forefathers fought and died for; this country and the freedoms we now know.
Go ahead and sit on your type 2 diabetic posterior and reach for your pre-prepared meal and indulge yourself with this pablum for the mind and allow yourselves to be dictated to by the masses but I will not. I'll be seeking ways to save my family in case of an emergency situation. I'll be preparing for what to do should this nation again suffer as it did when terrorists brought to the shores of my beloved nation their vile hatred for my country when they attacked those towers and the pentagon.
I'm not sure what brought about the cancellation of the Jericho series but I can say for a certainty that it was not lack of viewership. It was not for lack of originality. It was due more to the intellect of today's average individual American. One who wants to 'feel good' and not think about what might happen or what possibly lies ahead for this country.
The Jericho series gave you pause for thought. It made you recognize that bad things do happen to good people. It wasn't all about group sex or the many joys of being gay or even a filthy cartoon with filthy language and a disgusting underlying message.
Jericho was a good drama, it was a thought provoking drama that made many Americans recognize that this could happen to us! Heaven forbid we should entertain such negative but possibly actual thoughts.
To those I've offended with this post I do not apologize. Should this post be removed due to content or length then shame on those who can't take the truth.
Shame on you CBS/Paramount for not giving this show the same opportunity you give others and remember this; You can't please all the people all of the time but be aware of what happens when the blind lead the blind.
