Okay, so it is obvious that Canada is not behind the attacks. Some folks must be wondering where Canada is in this series, and why they have not been shown responding with aid - perhaps this will be addressed in the new season? Here's a reality check on Canada's role in such an unlikely event happening to the US:
CANADA INCAPACITATED BY FALLOUT - Small bombs, big area, mostly favourable wind patterns - obviously Windsor and surrounding area would be having troubles, Canada's military and civil power might be strained but Windsor population is relatively small. NO MILITARY RELEVANT OR ABLE TO ASSIST: Ever heard of NORAD? That is essentially a unified Air Force defending all NorAm airspace - a good chunk of the CON USAF would have alternate landing areas at bases, airports in Canada. C2 would be continued through NOARD alternates in Canada - perhaps not enough to smoothly fight a nuclear war, but surely enough to coordinate relief airdrops by C-130 from US ANG and CF. A similar command structure has been set up for our joint land and naval forces. CANADA's ECONOMY DESTROYED? - Manufacturing would definitely take a hit, located in S Ontario mainly. But a big chunk of Canada's wealth is in the well-dispersed resource sector. Food prod, clean water, fuel and electricity are also in relatively safe areas compared to the attack patterns illustrated in the Jericho series - we even have a respectable oil refining capability - all of these resources mean hard cash for Canada - and count on world food, energy and mineral prices to spike in the event that the US lost most of its production capacity - that means hard cash and guaranteed loans for Canada, enough to keep us afloat, and surely a sizeable portion of that would be earmarked toward getting the US back on its feet - they're our best customer afterall! I could go on, but you get the point - we would be there first and last, enough to perhaps merit a mention in the general plot. -N |

After decades of Back Bacon and Mountie jokes we snapped.
In a stunning military operation codenamed Operation Inuksuk, The Cape Breton Liberation Army launched a frontal assault on the American rear. Under the Command of Col. Ralph Klein a secret raid was mounted. The use of a single Avro Arrow which survived the Kennedy era purge of Canadian technology assured a Canuck victory. HMCS Bras D’or played an integual roll as a stealth command and control platform positioned of the American East Coast. Major General Michel Poutine infiltrated the top secret NORAD instalation in deep within Cheyenne mountain. The Banting virus was installed into the missile warning and space operations computers and the American Forces were unable to detect and track the launch of the Canadian Bowmark Missile armada. The result was American confusion and finger pointing the likes of which have not been seen since Benedict Arnold saved the Canadian colonys from American invasion in 1780, |

Maybe we just didn't want the US sucking power out the grids anymore. Hey, I'm surprised there was no mention at Black Jack of BC and WA and OR finally forming Cascadia...

Where is Canada's response? There is only one clue in a reference to PM Clement staying neutral on the Black Jack Fairground news board. Is this reference to Canada or the UK? I am leaning towards Canada, but PM Clement (current Health Minister)? That would be atrocious in itself.
But I am willing to wager that this is a reference to Canada staying neutral in the developing civil war between the West, South and East Coast. Furthermore, given the fallout patterns, the blasts at Chicago and Detroit would severely damage Southern Ontario as well. The blast at Seattle may also hit Vancouver or the British Columbian interior hard as well. As such, it would have a hard time delivering aid to the US under such conditions. There would also be a massive refugee crisis coming up from the US. If the EMP burst |
