Does anyone know what the cast thoughts are on cancelling the show? What heartbreak it is that this show has entered the lives of so many Americans, and now CBS is making the grave mistake of cancelling it. I personally feel like I know every character. Some I love, some I hate, some I hate to love and love to hate....but...they have been on my TV every Wednesday, and sometimes several times over the weekend on ON DEMAND. To lose this show is a travesty to the prime time line up....I am disgusted with CBS!

MovieMuncher The Death Of Johnston Green 5 Apr 18 2008, 12:34 AM EDT by stellamojo

I understand the reason for killing off Johnston Green, I was sad and upset, but he is the rock of the town, the "glue" holding it all together and sooner or later it is necessary to kill off the “glue” in order to destabilize the community…But, I felt it was too early, rushed and the fact that Mrs. Green didn’t get there in time was unfair to her as a character. He was still needed, at least until the end of this fight. If the writers had saved it up until the end of the first episode of the second season it could have gotten the right amount of time. But, Jake is not ready to take over yet, (I know they never are and that’s the point of killing off the “glue” is to force them into it) but he is not quite ready for that.

Also, note the fact that stupid Grey got shot in the gut and survived just fine, whereas Johnston (who I would wager is a stronger person with more of a reason to live than Grey) died because of a gun shot to a similar area. Hum??

Melissa21 Jake Green / Skeet Ulrich 1 Jan 18 2008, 2:45 PM EST by Girlflower

I keep seeing postings here about how could the writers “write off” Johnston/ he was the “main” character and Gerald McRaney was the “main” star, etc. After I read those kind of postings, I sit back and wonder if they saw the same episodes of Jericho I did.

The main character is Jake, and the main actor is Skeet Ulrich. (This is not just my opinion, but evidenced by the staring order listed in the beginning of each episode).

Yes, Johnston was a good character, and yes Mr. McRaney is a good actor and did a great job in this role. But in order for the story to go forward, and in order for Jake to “be the man is was born to be” Johnston had to either diminish in stature or be written off so Jake could try to fill his father’s shoes. I would rather see the character of Johnston go out a hero than have the strength of his character be diminished somehow. Real life has shocks and changes, and isn’t that part of the what the storyline of Jericho is all about—shocks and changes and how people adjust to them?
