Biography:
Was born Daniel Bernard (D.B.) Sweeney. His father is an educator and his mother is a municipal worker. He has two sisters and one brother. He graduated from Shoreham-Wading High School where he was a star athelete. His first love was baseball. In high school, he was a right fielder that baseball scouts came to see play. Sweeney played baseball at Tulane University with professional expectations but unfortunately in 1980 suffered a knee injury in a motorcycle accident that altered his plans. He left Tulane and went back to New York attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where he graduated with a BFA in 1985.

Trivia:He used the name Danny Sweeney at the beginning of his acting career, but since there was another actor with that name on the SAG/AFTRA productions, he had to change his name, and chose D.B. Sweeney.
For the movie Eight Men Out, in which he played Shoeless Joe Jackson, Sweeney had to learn to hit left-handed although he is right handed so he spent the summer with a minor league baseball team (Kenosha Twins) in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
