Operation Phoenix/Comic Book Update
June 18, 2010
Hello Fellow Rangers
The East Coast Ranger gathering in Boston last weekend was a great success. Lee, Beebull, Jim. Bestdamshow, Ranger Becky, Jericho Jane. Masscass and myself had a great time exploring Boston. It was great to see everyone again. Look for the ECRG to return to Baltimore for Fall 2011.
Is Jericho Dead? That is what I have been seeing on many of the forums and on Facebook over the past couple of weeks. Let's face it most people do not like waiting in the deli line on a Saturday, let alone waiting to see when or if we will get more Jericho on TV or the big screen.
The relatively short time of the First Campaign, to get the show back on the air, actually hurt us in the long run. People's expectations following the second cancellation were unrealistic and when we did the TV commercial, put up a billboard, etc. everyone expected CBS to cave again. They didn't cave but someone started to look at the internet, on demand, DVR adjusted numbers and found something they liked.
What changed their minds is 2 things - one money, Jericho is still a viable option to make money. In addition, with the advent of TV everywhere and with Jericho leading the way on the internet, I-tunes etc, CBS still can use it to make money. The comic itself has almost no profit margin, it's tie in to something else like a movie is the only thing that makes sense.
We believe that we will be getting some type of announcement at Comic Con regarding Jericho's future. We all need to be patient and let's see what news will come out at the end of July. The producers and DDP went silent with communication immediately after Wondercon, back in April. Prior to that we had been communicating with them very frequently. When we kept pushing them for a release date the tfaw website link appeared on the Save Jericho Facebook Page.
Ratkeeper will be at Comic Con in July, manning the Jericho Fan table, with 3 other Rangers. We will get live updates.
