I was watching The Walls of Jericho in hi-def ony my XBox 360 and spotted in the background of a shot in Bailey's Tavern a beer advert placquard for Firestone Walker Ale. Firestone Walker is a Microbrewery located in San Louis Obisbo, CA, with their main disitribution center in Buelton, CA, which is about 30 miles inland from Califonia's "south coast", the bit of east-west coast line that stretches from Malibu to Point Conception, where Vandenburg Air Force Base is.
When I used to live in Santa Barbara, Firestone Double Barrel Ale was my favourite beer, and I lament not being able to get it where I live now. One of the brewing company's slogons is "It's what we drink around here." The Microbrew has made a point in its local ad compaigns that they do not distrbte the beer outside the three counties of San Louis Obisbo County, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County. Therefor, the set for Bailey's Tavern (and probably other sets as well) is located in one of those three counties. I find it most likely that some of the show is filmed in a small town nestled in the backcountry of the Santa Ynez or San Gabriel Mountains.

I live in a town with a similar size population to Jericho (4,322). Supplies for various needs of the town:
Gas stations - 6 Bars - 4 Churches - 3 Grocery stores - 1 Nearest hospital - 12 miles I can see them having gas for a while, even alcohol. Not food. Or proper medical facilities. Our grocery store, by itself, would only feed our town for about two weeks.

Jerico, in a way, represents Oakley, KS. Oakley, KS, is where Highway 83, Highway 40, and Interstate 70 meat, like in Jerico. It is also close to Colorado, so they could so the mushroom cloud over Denver. The only problem with this is that Goodland is northeast of Oakley, while Goodland is southeast of Jerico.

I know some of the filming is being done in Simi Valley California. I drive by the location(s) every day. I live in Los Angeles and travel the 118 freeway daily seeing the signs and the filming crews set up off of Tapo Canyon Rd in Simi Valley.

I have question. When the Green boys goto Rough River they travel 90 miles. Now we must make some calucated assumptions. One they headed east. Why? Because "Jericho" is only 74 miles from the Colorado border and would put them closer to Denver, CO. In fact it would put them 20 miles into Colorado. The water was effected by the fallout from Lawrence not Denver. That means they traveled east. How if you go east 90 miles on I-70 you are in Hays, KS. Now Hays (Rough River if you will), KS is 231 miles from Lawrence and they have contaminated water. Jericho is 251 miles from Denver, CO and yet their water is not contaminated. Am I suppose to believe that 20 mile difference would keep Jericho's water supply safe? I mean it might be possible but I think it would be highly unlikely. I am not a fallout expert!! But I am wondering does natural elements like the "lay of the land" have anything to do with fallout spreading. If it does I think Jericho would be more like to have contaminated water than Rough River. Why? Living in Lawrence for 25 years I can tell you that Eastern Kansas is not flat! Western Kansas is as flat as your table top. In western Kansas there is a natural weather occurance called Chinook winds. They are winds that come off the mountains of Colorado. I would think and again I could be wrong that a Chinook wind blowing across a flat surface going in the natural direction of US weather patterns (West to East) would carry fallout faster and farther than normal winds going against normal weather patterns (East to West). Granted I am assuming that fallout was being moved by a chinook wind but I think my possiblity would also hold true for normal winds coming from Denver to Kansas.

US-40, US-83, and I-70 DO meet at a real place in Western Kansas... it is 12 miles away from my hometown... Oakley, Kansas. Although the Jericho layourt is nothing like Oakley. I also lived in Lawrence, and did some work in North Lawrence. That is an area literally "across the tracks". It is a lower income area of Lawrence and has a little higher average crime rate then the rest of Lawrence.

If you watch the producer's commentary of the first episode on CBS's Innertube, you learn that most of that episode was shot in Canada. Most of the rest was in California.

I would like to throw out a possible way a Jericho character got their name. It says above that some of the show was flimed on location in North Lawrence, KS. Now if you head from Lawrence north across the bridge to North Lawrence you will come to a stop light. If you go left it will take you behind a bar know (or it was when I lived there) as Johnny's tavern. Behind Johnny's is a trailer park. Take a few guess as to the name of the trail park...give up? The answer is Dale's trail court (according to mapquest.com). If I remember right and I would have to rewatch some episodes but does not the character Dale live in a.....trailer court? I just went over to the character bios and it confirms that Dale is a trailer kid.
