We had a MRSA scare here at the beginning of the school year. High school students were tested for it. Ok, hospitals and nursing homes, one would expect (shouldn't, but more common), but in the general public, with "healthy" high school students! Un-nerving. "

Isn't that something, tho? Just goes to show that too many people have relied on antibiotics for too long or have not finished the dose prescribed by the doctor. The best thing to do for a cold or the flu is to rest in bed (if possible) and drink plenty of fluids, aspirin for the headache & other aches, and good ole chicken soup. It ain't called 'jewish pencillin' for nothing! My doc keeps trying to push all kinds of meds on me and I politely refuse. I don;t want all those chemicals in my body - I'd rather take chances with the old fashioned remedies and just let it wear itself out. Did anyone out there ever hear of candied onions for the flu or other cold weather maladies? My grandmother used to use that all the time and it seemed to work just fine. And mentholatum or Vicks Vaporub on the chest with a flannel cloth over it to break up a cold. Menthlatum isn't as strong if you are sensitive to the Vicks, but works almost as well.
Flagtag, you must live in Florida? Me, too, and I heard the same story about the kids in high school with the MRSA. I'll bet the kids aren't using soap when they shower, the towels weren't washed with a good detergent or else not washed at all. Any soap will kill most germs especially if coupled with friction (a hand brush, or rubbing together) so something sounds fishy with that story. Ah well, we will never know.
