Character Played By: Erin Daniels

'Corporal' Maggie Mullen is a brave young woman who survived the bombings and stayed in a refugee camp. During a food riot, she and other refugees ambushed some soldiers and stole their uniforms and weapons. To survive, she and the other fake marines went from town to town pretending to be Marines and stealing people's food. In episode 20 Maggie admits to Jake that she knew what they did wasn't right. She does seem to be somewhat uneasy about the fake Marine act. At one point she tells the Gunnery Sergeant that "we're not killers" and she speaks of her desire to settle down in a peaceful town. At the end of Semper Fidelis, Maggie, after being discovered and shamed, tells Jake that she can't stay after the lie she told, suggesting regret.

Maggie has shown a lot of spunk, and in Semper Fidelis she strives to come off as cool and experienced, but her uncertainty and insecurity is obvious. Jake is fascinated by Maggie, and though he's a little indifferent to her at the beginning of "One if By Land", he does not hold a grudge against her. In fact, Jake seems to take every opportunity he can to protect her. Maggie has no problem expressing her feelings and can get a little emotional now and then. She has an understanding with Jake which enables her to be very frank with him.

Questions prior to her introduction:

• Who is Maggie? She appears in episode 1.15 "Semper Fidelis"

• How do we know? From an interview on Feb. 20 with Skeet Ulrich and Carol Barbee. They accidentally mentioned that a girl named Maggie will be entering the show in episode. They started to explain that she will be a love interest for Jake.

• The Kiss: In the Next Jericho promo after episode 1.14 "The Heart of Winter", it shows Jake sharing occasional glances with someone then kissing her. That character is Maggie.

Information:
Maggie first appears at the beginning of episode 1.15 "Semper Fidelis" walking next to a tank and carrying a gun. We meet her when her "Gunnery Sergeant" asks the town who can help them fix the radio. Jake volunteers.

Jake helps her rebuild the unit's radio by dismantling the Ham Radio in the sheriff's office. Just after it's rebuilt, the unit receives orders to move out. Jake is visibly disappointed.

He goes with Maggie to help pack supplies for the "Marines" to take with them on their way back to their "headquarters". It is at this point that they kiss but are interrupted by the "Gunnery Sergeant".

Later, when the unit is being treated to a feast before they leave, Jake is in the same room when the radio crackles to life again. He tries speaking to "headquarters" but hears explosions on the other end. He believes "headquarters" is under fire until he realizes the town is shooting fireworks to see the unit off.

Through various means, Jake, Stanley and Johnston come to the realization that the Marines aren't Marines at all.

Jake confronts Maggie in Gracie Leigh's old store. She pulls her gun. He tells her she doesn't have it in her, but he's knocked out cold by Maggie's "sergeant".

The end of the episode leaves us with a forlorn Jake watching Maggie march out of Jericho. He asks her several times to come back when she's tired of what she's doing, but she declines every time. She tells him that it wouldn't go well with the story they'd told. Maggie looks at Jake as she is leaving Jericho, and he tells her to be careful.

Discussion:
Q: How is it that Jake (apparently) fell so hard for Maggie when he can't own up to any feelings for Heather or his lingering ones for Emily?
A: I don't know. It's very strange that Jake didn't even know Maggie for one day and he kissed her when she had to leave. But, I could tell that he already had a lot of feelings for her. I could tell that he understood everything she was saying about what had been going on lately.

Q: Will Maggie possibly be coming back to Jericho for Jake, as he had suggested to do many times?
A: Yes She will be back: shows up in the "Sneak Peek" for episode 20
