(Salt Mine - New Bern men are trying to get in while the miners are trying to keep them out - Dan and Gray drive up)

Dan: This doesn’t look good. It could turn into a full blown riot.

Gray: Once our men show up, keep them out of sight. I don’t want those guys from New Bern getting trigger happy.

Dan: Right.

Gray: This salt mine is private property. You have thirty seconds to get the hell outta here.

(Shouts of “We’re not leaving” come from the men)

(Ted’s Grandfather's Cabin)

Ted: Hawkins.

Hawkins: What did I tell you, Ted?

Ted: Sorry, I knew it was you.

Hawkins: Yeah, but if it wasn’t me, you just gave up my name.

(New Bern Interrogation Room)

Phil: I want you to tell me who your friend is and where I can find him. Things are going to get very bad for you and your brother if you don’t help us, Jake.

Jake: Why would I want to help you?

Phil: This is what I know, is that you, your friend and your brother got caught attempting to sabotage this town's sole means of manufacturing.

Jake: Manufacturing of weapons, the manufacture…

Phil: So I am going to repeat the question: where is your friend?

Jake: Why don’t you tell me what happened to Heather Lasinski?

Phil: Take him back.

Deputy: Let's go, boy.(He begins to forcefully remove Jake from the room)

Jake: Word's gonna get back. It's gonna get back to Jericho about what you’re doing, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

(Jail Cell)

Eric: You ok?

Jake: Yeah.

Eric: Looks like they went easy on you.

Jake: Yeah, well, they haven’t found Hawkins yet. We’re gonna get out of here.

Eric: How many people have to die before you don’t care anymore?

Jake: April’s death was not your fault. We can’t even be sure Heather's dead with the lies they're spreading.

Eric: I’ve seen [ ], Jake, I don’t think I can go back.

Jake: Well. staying here and getting yourself killed isn’t going to make you feel any better, trust me. Remember the time I was supposed to, uh, wake you up for that meteor shower?

Eric: No.

Jake: Yeah, it was supposed to be this once in a life time thing. Anyway, you were so pissed at me, so
I finally gave up and let you sleep. Well, I’m not giving up this time.

(Salt Mine)

Gray: I should arrest you right here, Russell.

Dale: This is not his fault. We had a deal with him in New Bern.

Miner: Gray, what the hell is this?

Gray: There’s no deal. I’m not giving away anything.

(Russell turns to Dale)

Russell: Listen, we’ll think of something. Right now we need to stand down.

Dale: No, we’re not leaving without our salt.

Skylar: It’s not worth people getting hurt.

Russell: She’s right. All right, everybody…

Dale: Wait a minute -- what are you doing?

Russell: Look, Dale, I’m not going to let people get killed over this.

Dale: This was your idea.

Gray: No, this is over. Get your guys outta here.

(Fight breaks out - shots are fired)

(Medical Center)

Gail: How many more are there?

Gray: I’m not sure. Six, maybe seven.

Gail: We need more gurneys. What happened?

Gray: There were some guys from New Bern that showed up and tried to steal our salt. There was a shootout.

Gail: Oh my god! OK, Harry? Harry, we’re gonna get you cleaned up, OK, buddy? All right, hey, you need me to look at your arm?

Bill: No, it's OK. I can wait.

Gail: All right.

Bill: We shouldn’t be patching those guys up. We should be arresting them. They opened fire on us.

Gray: We don’t know who first fired, all right? I’ll get to an investigation. Right now we need to make sure people don’t die.

(Gail examines a man who is in critical condition)

Gail: Oh my god! Get him to Kenchy now.

Man: OK, right away.

Dale: Can we get some ice please? She twisted her ankle.

Skylar: I’m fine.

Dale: Hang on.

Mrs. Carmichael: Hold on, Harry.

Skylar: Mrs. Carmichael, is he going to be all right?

Mrs. Carmichael: No, he’s not going to be all right.

Skylar: I didn’t want this to happen.

Mrs. Carmichael: How could you expect anything different?! As long as you and your boyfriend are all set the rest of us can go to hell. Wouldn’t your father be proud.

Skylar: What is that supposed to mean?

Gail: OK, come on, she’s just nervous. Caroline, take a look at her ankle will you?

Caroline: Sure.

Gail: Don’t worry about it.

Emily: I heard about the shooting.

Mary: Here, I brought the antiseptic I’ve been working on.

Gail: Thank you.

Emily: What can we do?

Gail: Look, I need charts on anybody who’s checked in. Annie, show her how to fill one out will you?

Mary: What is this going to mean for Eric?

Gail: I don’t know.

Mary: But haven’t we heard anything?

Gail: I just told you I don’t know. Johnston’s working on it. Now what I could use is a roll of gauze and some bandages. There on the cart next to the ultrasound.

Mary: OK, I just don’t know what that looks like.

Gail: Never mind. I’ll do it myself.

(Mayors Office)

Gray: Well, what the hell did you think was gonna happen?

Russell: Well, you didn’t have to bring Rangers in there.

Gray: I was protect (knock at the door)What!

Johnston: I’m afraid we’ve had our first fatality. One of your guys from New Bern, uh, Dawson, didn’t get the first name.

Russell: Jim Dawson. OK, you have got to let me go back to New Bern and tell them that you support this salt mine deal.

Gray: No, that’s not happening.

Russell: If they so much as think that you fired the first shot…

Gray: That who, fired, what?!

Russell: Come on Gray, we need to work together while we still can. Things are bad in New Bern and when they find out that six of us came here and only five are coming back--
Johnston: What are you saying, Russell?

Russell: You’ve got people there. You should bring them home.

Johnston: Eric. Eric’s still there.

Russell: Johnston, you need to know something. Eric hasn’t been seen for a few days, and yesterday Jake went back there to try and find him.

Johnston: You’re telling me this now?! All right, come on. If we leave now, we can get there before dawn.

Gray: No, no, no, no. I’m not…

Johnston: Did you hear him? Constantino wants a bigger fight. He’s not gonna have my sons as human shields. Let's go!

(New Bern Jail)

Jake: Maggie? Maggie.

Maggie: Of all the jail cells, right?

Jake: Hardly recognize you without your wardrobe. What happened? Did you guys get caught?

Maggie: Kind of hard to pull that off without the tank. We uh, pretty much split up after Jericho. I came to New Bern with a couple of the guys, but we got turned away at the border weeks ago. I was dumb enough to try and sneak back in.

Jake: Why? This place is hell.

Maggie: Its worse out there.

Jake: Really? That’s hard to imagine.

Maggie: I heard you two got pulled in front of Town Hall. I don’t want to scare you, Jake, but you've got to get out of here.

Jake: That isn’t exactly easy.

Maggie: You could do it if you got someone outside.

Jake: Why -- do you?

Maggie: Know someone outside? No. I’m just trying to help.

Jake: Yeah, last time you tried to help you nearly wiped out my town's supplies.

Maggie: I was trying to survive.

Jake: Yeah. So were we.

Maggie: Look, I’m not saying it was right. We had something people wanted and we used it. That’s how it works. You think you're helpless in here? Well, you’re not, not if you have something they want.

Jake: What makes you think I have something they want?

Maggie: What -- you think they're beating you up for fun?

Jake: Well, even if I had something I wouldn’t give it to them.

Maggie: You’re right. You shouldn’t, but I could.

Jake: Yeah, right, no thanks.

Maggie: Listen, if you talk they're gonna throw you back in your cell. There’s no way they're letting either of you out of here. But if I got the information, I can trade it for my freedom and I can go get help.

Jake: What, give myself up to get you out?

Maggie: So I can get all three of us out and you can take me back to Jericho. I can’t go anywhere without you.

(Deputy comes to get Eric)

Deputy: Let’s go.

Jake: What are you doing?

Deputy: Get up.

Jake: Hey, where are you taking him? He’s already told you everything he knows. Eric! Eric!

(Medical Center)

Johnston: So how are things here?

Gail: Harry’s gonna be OK but I’m worried about the staff. Everybody’s exhausted.

Johnston: Yeah.

Gail: You sure you’re OK to drive?

Johnston: Oh yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Better hit the road.

Gail: Be careful. If I lose all three of you I swear to God--(Johnston hugs her)

Johnston: Shh, shh… I’m gonna bring them home. Now, you get some sleep. Gotta go.

(New Bern Jail)

Jake: Eric! What’s going on? What are you doing to him?

Maggie: Jake. Jake, just give me a chance. Please, we can end this.

Jake: OK, OK.

(Interrogation Room)

Maggie: His name is Robert Hawkins, he said he’s probably in a hunting cabin owned by a guy names Ted. He works at the factory.

Deputy: Find out where it is and go over there.

Maggie: You’re supposed to take me with you.

Deputy: What?

Maggie: That’s, that’s the deal I made with Constantino. I go with you and as soon as you see the guys there you drop me off at the check point. Just talk to Constantino, this, he was supposed to be here.

Deputy: Take her with you. If he’s not there, kill her.

(New Bern Check Point - Johnston and Russell drive up)

Russell: This is Johnston Green from Jericho. We need to talk to the Sheriff.

Man: He’s up at the cabin. We have orders he’s not to be interrupted.

Johnston: He’ll want to be interrupted for this.

(Middle of New Bern)

Hawkins: It's not exactly Mayberry, is it?!

Ted: Not since Ravenwood.

Hawkins: How are you with a rifle?

Ted: I’ve hunted jackrabbits before. What? I’ve never shot a person if you're asking.

Hawkins: We need to go back to the factory. We need mortars.

Ted: For what? We can’t launch them over that fence.

Hawkins: Oh, we're not going to launch them from here.

(Constantino’s Land in New Bern)

Johnston: Phil. Nice spread you got here.

Phil: I always wanted you to see this place.

Johnston: Well, I just wish it were under better circumstances. I just found out Eric’s been missing a couple days. I’d like a little update on that.

Russell: And there was an incident at the salt mine, some of our people got hurt.

Phil: Let’s take a walk.

(Ted’s Cabin)

Deputy 1: Go around back. I got the front. You watch her. Let’s go,

Deputy 2: You better hope he’s home.

(Constantino’s Land)

Phil: This mine deal, this was your idea?

Russell: I thought it could help the town create a partnership.

Phil: Now that didn’t quite work out, did it?

Johnston: Well, it was mishandled all the way around. We were hoping we could reach some sort of agreement.

Phil: Well, it’s a little late for that. You opened fire on our citizens.

Russell: We don’t know who shot first.

Johnston: Come on, Phil. A bunch of guys show up in the middle of the night trying to take out salt. What would you have done?

Phil: Jericho’s continuous acts of aggression against this town are unjustifiable.

Johnston: What continuous acts? We're neighbors, for God's sake.

Phil: I didn’t hear much talkin' neighbors when you sent Ravenwood straight to out door.

Johnston: We almost blew everything to hell and gone trying to defend ourselves against those mercenaries. We had no idea where they were headed next.

Phil: You couldn’t try and warn us? You couldn’t help us when they were raiding what little we had left, shooting whoever got in their way, my deputies, my friends? Then I find both of your sons, both of them in my factory trying to destroy the last form of capital this town has.

(Johnston looks a little confused by this remark)

Johnston: Slow down.

Phil: Jake was apprehended yesterday attempting to sabotage my factory.

Johnston: That makes no sense. The factory's producing wind turbines.

Phil: Your sons were pretty bent on the idea. I caught Eric the day before trying to do the same thing. We’re holding both of them.

(Johnston is starting to get angry and gets right up in Constantino’s face)

Johnston: Now you listen to me, I don’t care what you think we’ve done to you, but if harm comes to either of those boys, this is not gonna end well.

Phil: There’s been little chance of this ending well for some time.

Johnston: I wanna see my boys. Now.

(Ted’s Cabin)

Deputy 3: What the hell's taking them so long?

(The third deputy goes into the house after handcuffing Maggie to the car - Hawkins comes running out of the house gun in hand)

Hawkins: Who are you?

Maggie: Don’t shoot.

Hawkins: Who are you?

Maggie: I’m with Jake, I’m with Jake.

Hawkins: What did you say?

Maggie: Columbus, Columbus. He said to tell you Columbus and you’d know he sent me. I was with him in prison. He sent me to help. He sent me to help you. Columbus, Columbus…

Hawkins: OK, OK, I got it. How’s Jake doing?

Maggie: He’s OK.

(Hawkins throws her the keys for the handcuffs - Ted walks out)

Hawkins: Yeah? That’s Ted. He’s with me.

Maggie: I’m Maggie. Jake sent me. Where are the cops?

Hawkins: They’ve been dealt with.

Ted: Yeah, you -- you don’t wanna go in there. Here, this is everything.

(Ted hands Hawkins a backpack)

Maggie: So what’s the plan?

Hawkins: Plan? There’s going to be an explosion in town. Hopefully there’s enough chaos that somehow we can get Jake and Eric outta there.

Maggie; I think I can help you do that. I have an in with Constantino.

(Jail - A Deputy pushes Eric against the wall then throws him back in the cell)

Jake: Come on. What the hell happened?

Eric: I didn’t tell them anything.

Jake: Maggie gave them Hawkins.

Eric: This is not about Hawkins. They wanna know about Jericho -- what our defenses are like, do we have any troops, where are they posted, do we have a stockpile of weapons…that sort of thing.

Jake: We have to get back. We have to warn them.

Eric: We will. We’re not gonna die in here.

(Medical Center)

Emily: Hey, I’m taking off.

Gail: Oh, OK. Hey, thanks for all your help.

Emily: Hey, no problem. You need to get some rest.

Gail: I will. Listen, I am sorry if I was abrupt earlier.

Emily: We’re all under a lot of pressure. Gail, Mary’s really trying. Maybe you could give her a chance.

Gail: Yeah, I know. It’s, it's just being here. This was April’s whole world. I miss her so much. I know it's not fair.

Emily: For what it's worth, you and Mary have a lot in common.

Gail: What, we both love Eric?

Emily: No, I was actually gonna say, um, you’re both pretty tough broads, you’re both a little hard headed. In a bar fight, even money.

(Gracie’s Market)

Dale: Everything OK back here?

Skylar: Fine.

Dale: Thought you were supposed to stay off your ankle.

Skylar: Whatever. It's not like I got shot.

Dale: I told you, Skylar, it wasn’t our fault.

Skylar: I know. I just don’t understand why now it's OK for all this random criticism about my dad to come flying out at me. What is that? Especially coming from people who were supposedly his friends.

Dale: Well, I guess they're not his friends.

Skylar: The Carmichaels used to come over like every other week for dinner. We used to go on vacations together. Why would they do that if they hated him?

Dale: They don’t hate him. They're just scared of him.

Skylar: My dad was a good man. He gave them the money for the clock on Main Street. He did lots of good things.

Dale: Maybe he did, but that’s not why they were nice to him. They were nice to him because he had a lot of power. That’s how it works.

(New Bern)

Hawkins: I’m headed for the factory. You both ready?

Maggie: Gonna need someone to cover those guards over there.

Hawkins: Ted, be ready to take them out.

Ted: I thought I was driving.

Maggie: Someone’s got to be on those guards while I get Jake and Eric out.

Hawkins: Cover them until I get back. And if need be, take out the sniper first.

Ted: Five months ago, you know what I was doing? Customizing my truck.

Maggie: I was getting ready to defend my dissertation, Russian lit. How about you, what were you doing last time things were normal?

Hawkins: I can’t remember back that far. Is everybody ready?

Maggie: How will we know when you’re finished over there?

Hawkins: You’ll know.

(New Bern Front of Town Hall)

Russell: I’ll wait here.

Johnston: No, no, Russell. These are not your sons. You can go on home.

Russell: We can fix this. It doesn’t have to end this way.

Johnston: I got the feelin' it's just getting started. You can come to Jericho if you want to. You know that.

Russell: Yeah. I’ve got family here, a little girl. This is our home, and I keep thinkin' if I stay here, maybe I can stop this. Johnston, if you get into a bad situation, go to the railroad tracks and go East. It will take you to Route 70 and you can skip the checkpoint.

Johnston: Thank you, Russell.

Russell: Good luck.

(Russell walks away and Phil walks up)

Phil: We’re gonna have to do this another time.

Johnston: What?

Phil: My Deputy says it isn’t a good day. You can come back tomorrow.

Johnston: I’m not leaving until I see my sons, Phil.

Phil: I’ll tell you what. You can bring back all of my citizens who were shot in Jericho last night, and I’ll give you fifteen minutes with your sons.

Johnston: You don’t wanna do this.

Deputy: Let’s go, Mr. Green.

Johnston: What’s this?

Deputy: We’re gonna escort you back to the checkpoint. Get in your car, please, Mr. Green.

(Factory Loading Dock)

Man: Get a few more, easy with these.

(Hawkins shoots the driver)

Man: Mortars are good to go.

(Jail Cell - Deputy comes for Jake)

Deputy: Get up.

(Town Hall)

Maggie: Don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me! I’m the one you sent to get the guy from Jericho. He tried to kill me. Please, I need to talk to Constantino right away. Please.

(Jail Cell)

Maggie: Constantino, that guy Hawkins told me he’s going to the factory right now to blow it up, and then he’s gonna go blow up the Town Hall so he can get Jake and Eric out.

Phil: You expect me to believe he wired a Government building under 24 hour armed surveillance?

Maggie: I’m just telling you what he told me. I’m trying to help you so you can let me stay as a citizen. Please don’t lock me in here.

Phil: Do you think I’ve forgotten how quickly you turned on your friends when we first brought you in here? I don’t believe a word that comes out of your mouth.

(Interrogation Room - Deputy brings in Jake)

Eric: Get him out of here.

Jake: What is this? Come on, you already know everything. What do you want from us? I already told you everything I know.

Deputy Perkins: Maybe so. Maybe your brother will be a little more forthcoming if he thinks it’ll save your life.

(A Deputy grabs Jake and puts a knife to this throat)

Eric: Let him go! Let him GO!

(Hawkins drives the truck back to the factory - fixes gas pedal so it drives into building)

(Interrogation Room)

Eric: Let him go! Let him go!

Jake: Eric!

Deputy Perkins: How much do you have?

Eric: Let him go!

Deputy Perkins: Than tell me what you know!

Eric: Let him go!

Jake: Eric, don’t tell them anything.

Deputy Perkins: Tell me right now.

Jake: Eric, look at me. Eric, look at me! Don’t tell them anything.

Deputy Perkins: Your spies sent you here. Tell us or we slit his throat.

Jake: Leave him alone, Perkins.

Deputy Perkins: Not unless you tell me.

(An explosion is heard as the truck hits the factory and blows up)

Deputy Perkins: What the hell was that?

(Checkpoint - The men see the explosion)

Man: Come on!

(Johnston gets back in his truck and drives into town)

(Interrogation Room)

Phil: There was an explosion at the factory. Move them to the warehouse.

Deputy Perkins: What about the other prisoners?

Phil: Just them. Now!

Deputy Perkins: Un-cuff them. Come on. Un-handcuff them. Let's go, move!

(Outside Town Hall - Ted is getting nervous and looks like he wants to run - Hawkins comes from behind)

Ted: Oh jeez.

Hawkins: Where you going?

Ted: To get the, to get the truck.

Hawkins: You were told to wait here until I got back.

Ted: I know.

Hawkins: Ted, breathe, just breathe. Everything’s going fine.

Ted: I can’t do this.

Hawkins: Ted.

Ted: I’m sorry, I just can’t. I’m sorry.

Hawkins: Ted!

(Ted runs away and leaves Hawkins alone)

(Town Hall - Two Deputies bring out Jake and Eric - Hawkins sneaks up)

Hawkins: Jake!

(Jake takes down his guard - Eric is grabbed by the other Deputy - Sniper shoots Hawkins in the arm - Jake shoots the guard holding Eric)

Jake: Get down. You OK?

Eric: I’m good.

(Mary runs out and gets shot in the leg - Johnston drives up)

Johnston: Jake! Eric! Get over here!

Hawkins: Everybody go!

Jake: Go, get up. Come on.

(They all run to the truck)

Jake: Come on.

(They make their way along the railroad tracks to avoid the checkpoint)

(Gracie’s Store - A man carries firewood in)

Skylar: Thanks. Uh, you can put it with the rest in aisle four. Can I help you, Mrs. Carmichael?

Mrs. Carmichael: I heard you got some meat.

Skylar; One of Mr. Hendersen’s mares broke her leg, but she was healthy.

Mrs. Carmichael: I’ll take a quarter pound. This is a pound of grain.

Dale: It’s not gonna be enough.

Mrs. Carmichael: But that’s what it says. It says four pounds of grain for a pound of meat.

Dale: Price went up, sorry.

Mrs. Carmichael: Please, it’s for Harry. The doctor said he needs protein.

Dale: It’s up to you.

(Skylar hands Mrs. Carmichael a quarter pound of meat)

Skylar: My father was a good man, Mrs. Carmichael.

Mrs. Carmichael: Yes, he was.

Skylar: There’s a quarter pound.

Mrs. Carmichael: Thank you.

(Bailey’s - Mary is washing jars at the bar - someone walks in)

Mary: We’re closed.

Gail: I just wanted to return this. The antiseptic really helped.

Mary: Thank you. I have a fresh batch.

Gail: We’ll take it. So there’s no one in town who wants to have a drink tonight?

Mary: Well, you would think the big draw would be the atmosphere and the gracious hospitality, but it turns out it’s the booze. They’ll be back when I make more vodka.

(Mary hands Gail the fresh batch of antiseptic)

Gail: Thank you.

Mary: How’s everything going down at the center?

Gail: Well, it's calmed down, but we had to break up a lot of fights. This whole New Bern thing is making everybody really jumpy.

Mary: Talked to Gray -- said if they're not back by dawn he’d go up there himself.

Mary: Then it's gonna be a long night.

Mary: You’re welcome to stay, listen to music or…

Gail: I think I’ll go home and wait there.

Mary: Good night.

Gail: If I hear anything I’ll let you know.

Mary: Same here.

Gail: Night, Mary.

(Somewhere on the roadside back to Jericho - Eric, Jake, and Hawkins are hiding the truck with tree branches - Johnston is looking at Maggie’s leg)

Johnston: I didn’t think we’d make it this far with the gas in that tank.

Hawkins: Hey, hey! We, uh, we got about twelve miles to cover and, uh, I don’t think she’s gonna make it.

Eric: Well, we have to try.

Jake: She didn’t leave us. We’re not leaving her.

Eric: Hey, uh, here’s your knife. How’s your shoulder?

Hawkins: Hurts like hell.

Eric: That’s good.

(Johnston picks up Maggie fireman style)

Hawkins: How you holdin up?

Eric: I’m still walking.

Hawkins: Yes, you are.

(They start walking back to Jericho - Hawkins hands Jake his flask)

Jake: This is real whisky.

Hawkins: Uh huh.

Jake: This is actual whisky.

Hawkins: I kept a stash just for emergencies.

Jake: Yeah, I bet you did. Hey, Eric what do you think? It’s no meteor shower but…

Eric: Hey, Jake, thanks for coming to get me.

Jake: You smell that?

Johnston: First wheat’s growing in.

Jake: This used to be my favorite time of year.

Johnston: Hey, shh…shh…Listen to that wind, still moving even after everything we did.

Jake: And everything that’s coming.

Johnston: We should go.

(They all continue walking through the night back to Jericho)
