Biography: Pamela Reed was born to W. Vernie Reed and Norine Geistle on April 2, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington. Her family then moved to Maryland where she spent the majority of her childhood and attended University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland; Reed moved back to the Northwest to attend Western Washington University, Bellingham, Washington; where she helped to pay her way by working as a cook on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Reed earned her degree from The University of Washington, Seattle, Washington (BFA in Drama, 1975).

In 1988 she married Sandy Smolan, who she met on the film "Rachel River" in which he directed her. They have two children: Reed, 15, and Lilly, 11, both of whom are adopted.


Career Bio:
Reed began her career on the New York stage making her off-Broadway debut in "Curse of the Starving Class" and working in several New York Shakespeare productions, among them "All's Well That Ends Well" in Central Park and "Aunt Dan and Lemon" at The Public. Reed first appeared on Broadway in "The November People" (1978) and made her screen debut two years later, playing Belle Starr in Walter Hill's stylish western, "The Long Riders".
