if you had a political goal, you wouldnt nuke the majority of american population centers. a coup would involve removal of the executive branch, blackmailing would neccesitate one small attack to prove resolve and weapons capability - with threats of more attacks, and framing another nation of an act of war would involve one large attack with planted evidence.
you dont blow the crap out of the very thing you are trying to gain, that would be like blowing up the whole bank - money included - during a robbery. |

The group behind the bombs is U.S. based maybe military types. They want to use the "attacks" as impetus for a nuclear strike against China, Iraq, etc Jake was peripherally involved with these people and he had an inkling of the attack(s) to come. He is the "traitor" Hawkins hears about and that why Jake was in a real hurry to get back to San Francisco which was later bombed. Maybe he wanted to use his grandfather’s money to take out the terror cell. Why not just report it to the local authorities? Because if you listen to Jake's radio in the pilot it would seem the political situation is pretty dire and if people within the government were involved who do you trust? Pretty extreme but what if Hawkins was part of that group and the FBI badge and cover story is fake. He might have planted his bomb in Denver and got his Family to safety. Victor who died was part of that team. Hawkins said they were a man down and then one of his other teammates was compromised. You can have two man seal teams. Two seems a little small for a splinter cell. Gray said 15 families had moved to Jericho recently. I wonder how many paid cash for their houses. Then there’s the barrel he's hidden in his basement. If this group wanted to take over the government. Maybe they planned to destroy a bunch of cities then issue demands blackmail the Government with the threat of destroying more cities if they didn't comply. The missiles being launched were our response to the “attacks” and the EMP was to stop our missiles when the legit Gov’t found out China wasn't the real perpetrator. The Government instead asks for international aid and China responds. Thus the air drops from China with American parachutes, Russian planes and message not to fight. The interrupted presidential address more in fighting. The lack of a military response is because our Commander in Chief can't trust his generals.

I doubt very highly that the writers of jericho would have a Biblical world View concearning end times... If they did, the next bit of international news I would expect to hear on the show is that Iran launched an attack on isreal, with a coalition of Russian, Chinese, Turkish, and Ethiopian troops with isreal Miraculously holding the attack off. And then how the Current leader of the European union just brokered a treaty.
Then there would be word of a portion of the town dissapearing. Anyway, the only thing biblical about this show is the name of the town. |
