A Giegercounter or a radiation detector can be made by a coffee can a string and tinfoil and a lid.. sting across top of can.. with folded tinfoil on the line put the lid back on.. the tinefoil will tip up initially during a large irradiation .. and fall to the middle when the radiation has passed.. After Chernobyl I made one just on a whim and everyday I watched for the tinfoil to drop back to the middle.. (Found this in a book by Whitley Streiber) Anyway kept all windows closed and limited my time our side until I saw results... Radiation from the blasts will travel up into the atmosphere and form bands in the weather patterns for serveral years,, There are no static weather patterns on earth they rove.. like the jet streams..
Human waste is a reality... I think there would be work groups digging latrines .. and creating public spaces for bathing as the need to conserve energy resources would be high.. The reality I've found after a few hurricanes destroyed the largest mobile home park in the US... the residents mostly elderly folks just took one look at their homes, the loss of their memories and gave up.. the two years after the storms the death rate was up dramatically... they just didnot want to start over... A segment devoted to the elderly of Jerico would be interesting since most of our society has forgotten about these hardly souls... and their knowledge... Also a segment on how to stretch a food budget.. During the depression . I learned my grandmother would crumble saltines into eggs to scramble. The story line where the 1 pound of grain that was traded for 1/4 pound of horse meat.. enters into the story again. those seeds are worth a fortune. Trash? who's picking it up? Is vermin becoming a problem? The town could start a dump for winter burning materials.or the trash could be transformed into hot bathing waters. What did the Romans do? Thoughts from Girlflower |
