"Thats because the origin of Neoconservativism is from the Soviet Union. The founders of the neocon movement were expats from Czarist russia and were followers of Lenin and Marx. they repackaged the soviet idealogy for the American market and allied themselves with President Woodrow Wilson. They fell out of favor quickly when the democratic party began abandoning its militarism and radical racist values and moved to progressive liberalism. At nearly the same time the Republican party moved very quickly to become the party of the wealthy and privileged during the Reagan Revolution. The Neocons saw their opportunity and jumped ship to the GOP. Their power peaked in 2000 with the election of GW Bush and their influence is declining rapidly due to their economic incompetence and failures in the war on terrorism, though they still are quite popular with many conservatives due to their pro-israeli stance. They took advantage of protestant biblical beliefs and used it to garner a lot of support by having unquestioned support for Israel and strong anti-muslim militancy, as well as fostering anti-immigrant positions and promoting a Soviet-style cold war sized military to 'protect' the USA from unspecified threats."
