I did some number crunching (it’s what I do) and calculated the populations of both the ASA and USA to see who would win out in civil war assuming all other things are equal. Some information is sketchy so I made some assumptions while doing my math. First I totaled up each state’s population and divided it using the Mississippi River as a dividing line. Pending any additional information Hawaii Alaska and Texas are in the nation of Wild Card. I determined that that prior to the attacks the ASA had a population of 103,576,541 while the USA had a population of 169,777,079 and the Wild Cards had a population of 25,463,335. This puts the USA at an advantage of 66,200,538 or a ratio of roughly 1.6391. In order to compensate for radiation casualties and general death from chaos I assumed a 100% death toll of the Metro populations of the 23 attacked cities. I say 23 because at the beginning of episodes one and two of Season 2 Jake establishes it so. By piecing together information the 23 cities are as follows.
ASA: Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Kansas City (I chose this city over Lawrence because it was close enough and Lawrence didn’t make sense) , Minneapolis, St. George (Which seems highly unlikely but I can find no reasonable alternative) and Seattle. USA: Hartford, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Norfolk, and Washington D.C. Wild Card: Dallas, Houston

Hi,
I live in South Alabama just outside of Mobile and it seems to me that this map just divides the country with the Mighty Mississippi. Living were I do I can tell you that Louisiana would not secede to the A.S.A. especially if Montgomery is the new capital of the U.S.A. Baton Rouge(the capital of Louisiana) is located in a Florida Parish which means that it cultural ties are more to Southern Mississippi and Southwest Alabama(which all use to be part of the Republic of West Florida) than the mid west and Pac Coast . All of the states governing bodies would have it in their best intrest to stay in the U.S.A. Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans are mirror images of each other. Most residents of New Orleans evacuated to either Texas or Alabama.those two metropoliton areas are more than 2/3's the states population. In a way it could be possible. It would be just like the first civil war. It would cause a major power struggle over the Mississippi. Other than that not much can be said

At least we know one good thing. The new Presdient said our debts was forgiven by the the world other nation. But you know must of the world country hold there reserve in dollors)they would either be gone or nearly worthless now). I know we have not talked much about the world outside of the USA. But there a very good chance. That the destruction of the US. Has driven the world into a worldwide recession or maybe even Depression (that would make the one from the 1930's look tame). The USA is only 5% of the world population but is the world ecomnical engine that drive the global markets!!

I think as the episodes keep coming, is it becoming obvious that the Allied States of America is not a nation in the classic sense. It would appear that the ASA is nothing more than a corporate state, owned and operated by J&R.. Everybody knows that corporations aren't democracies. They are businesses and nothing else. The attacks were setup by J&R to create a takeover of America. I tend to also think that not only Valente and Tormachio are invloved, there are people at the very top of J&R who are the ones who are calling the shots. Valente is just the man who organized the whole plot. Tormachio is only there for window dressing. A figurehead. What better way to control a country and it's masses by engineering a terrorist attack.
Maybe I am conveying the obvious here but anybody who is convinced that the ASA is nothing but a corporate state?

The smoke has cleared, the fall out has fallen, the phones are all dead so there won't be any callin.
Gas at a premium, and I don't mean the cost, known roads all blown up so I'll most likely get lost. My back to the sea now, it's such a long walk, which way is the right one ASA or Eastern Block? What do you think? Is Jericho on the right side of the border ???

Is the ASA an extreme but fictionalized example of the Shock Doctrine? You know, the policy in which corporations and the governments associted with them take advantage of a natural or human-made disaster in order to reshape a community or even a nation to a form more to their liking?

During WWII the "boxcar" was the B-29 (I think). It was used to drop the atomic bomb over Japan. Does anyone think this is a reference to bombing the new East USA's capital

Major Beck didn't seem very please when Ravenwood drove up. I think that is the switch that will turn Beck away from the ASA

Our debts are not wiped out, the ASA is still being born. The people living in the Eastern Block or the United States still have to pay those debts. Are you all so blind to see that President Tomarchio is actually trying convince the American People to join him, by giving food, water, supplies, and telling them they are free of debt. It's all part of the plot, that's the reason why Mr. Mayor didn't care about the Text Book...

Somebody needs to change the map that has the ASA/USA flags over the states. It appears that Wisconsin and illinois are in the ASA, but the other map shows them in the USA.
Or is there a ASA military operation going on we don't know about yet? konev

Whoa, one comment about your map... what about Alaska and Hawaii? I counted up the states, it seems like two are missing. Which means that we really have no clue who joined what.

I thought that the mississippi river ended in minnesota. If so this map is wrong. but if this is the way the states are divided then The state of Superior has formed in the A.S.A. amd in old U.S. I guess we have West Florida (South East Louisiana)
