What are the reasons for the attack?
Put on your thinking caps, fellow Jericho addicts . . . Bombs were set off at ground level in major cities, NOT flown in by missile

What are the reasons for the attack?
"As for who Hawkins works for, I found this helpful...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_River_%28Jericho_episode%29
the Morse Code for the beginning of the episode says "Rob not FBI"
" I am not saying that the Morse doesn't say "Rob not FBI" but check out the link on "What's in the Basement" to a morse code translator and see if it does. I have the link there, but haven't correlated the two myself. I would feel a lot better if a contributor checked it out and reported back! Are you up to it? I'm not going to able to for a few days!

Reasonable Assumption of WHO DID IT
I like your theory it is very insightful, the first rule of thumb to shut down a nation is to cripple it. Cut off food, water, power and communication. The Federal Reserve would in fact play a major role in world commerce but I do not believe it would stop our military. The military runs not matter what with or with our pay. The company's are bound to produce with or without payment. The communication problem within the military was probably replaced by ham and Microwave radios. Everyone with a ham radio in America is communicating just not in Jericho and those people were probable identified by military and equipment confiscated. We still have C-130's and C-5's so they are most likely being used to transport or M-1 tanks to wherever needed. We still have plenty of equipment without new technology to fight a war. Every service member fighting was probably given an M-16 none of these were harmed by the EM Pulse. Maybe our military is fighting elsewhere and the reason old relics are seen flying over our air space is because that is all that could be spared because those relics cannot hold up in war. With commerce shut down we have joined ranks with NATO to fight with combined equipment which leaves relics for aid. I am just adding to your thoughts.

The US President is behind the attacks.
The current President is behind the attacks. We have been told that Washington D.C has been destroyed, but was the President there when it happened ? The President is not always in Washington D.C. We also know that Hawkins had a bomb, and, he is a part of a government group. He also told one of his partners that only Families were suppose to be spared. I think the current President had low approval rates, so he decides to tear the country apart, so that he can pull it back together, and be the great savior. Ravenwood and others are running around taking advantage of the state of things, but like their leader said, they are going to be the ones hired to pull things back together. The President is going to wait until things are almost beyond repair, and then swoop in and restore order. We also learn that New York was not destroyed as was first suspected. The reasoning is that New York found the bomb and stopped the terrorists, but I think that is part of the plan. New York is going to be the new capital of the country. With the destruction of Washington D.C., the main branches of the government are gone. There are no checks and balances left to stop the President from doing what he wants. Sarah is working for the President and taking out all the loose ends. The people outside of the Presidents inner circle, who know what happened. Once all of those people are gone, no one will be left to tell the other people what happened at least no one who is not going to directly benefit from what the President did. We only saw about 4 or 5 people with trucks, but there were more than 4 or 5 major cities destroyed. The people carrying out the attacks, probably were told that the attacks were going to be on a smaller scale than they were. Hawkins seemed surprised by the number of cities affected. The traitor is Hawkins. He did not carry out the plan. He still has his bomb, and that is the proof that the government is behind the attacks and that is why they want the package.

Wait, 20 kt attacks?
Okay, after a little research on teh Interwebs (Hi, NSA! Tell Homeland Security it was research for a fan site, please) that, although the announced yield of the attacks were 20 kt do match the smallest Russian/Soviet weapons available (the warheads from antisubmarine torpedoes, in case anyone's interested), if we're talking "thermonuclear RV used in ICBMs" we're looking at a minimum yield of 2 megatons, over 100 times the claimed yield, with i likely yield of 20 megatons, about 1000 times the yield if my pre-coffee math is correct.
This explains Washington, D.C. being "gone", as well as the huge fallout patterns from what are claimed to be improvised fission devices barely larger than Fat Man and Little Boy.
For the "99% of the Internet is crap" folks, the site I'm getting my info from:
http://www.cdi.org/nuclear/database/rusnukes.html
claims to get their info from Janes' Strategic Weapons, which I hear is good, along with the START II treaty and several other publications Admittedly, the data is ten years old, but unless the Russians have started a craze of low-yeild ICBM warheads my point stands.
Now, assuming the writers didn't fall down on this, then the announced yield of the weapons used in the attacks is a flat-out lie. A flat-out lie, by the way, that the Russians, Chinese, NATO members, and anyone else with a seismograph knows to be one, as well as anyone wondering how you get a six-mile-wide crater out of a 20 kt weapon.
At about twenty miles from San Francisco, however, it's not my problem - at 25 miles I'm probably in the third-degree-burn area of the San Francisco strike.

Repeat of Comment in "Response to the Attacks"
"not a realistic theory any nuke attack would bring a nuke rsponse moving of ground forces would nolonger be an issue" Possible but not neccessarily true. If the weapons were "truck bombs", as we have been led to believe, then troop movement is most defintely an issue...Why?...because if you do a sneaky thing... theres a reason...lack of missle response ability....big event(but thats all they have)....or what I think, the troops were central to the situation...somehow...perhaps "someone" wanted to create a reason to make it difficult to move the troops.

what if...
Remember the ICBM's being launched from near jericho..well..most discredit that..but our gov't may not have told us the true locations of where we still have operable ICBMs..but my question is...Why would they only launch 2...most ICBM's are in clusters that include many more..two missles could still be up to 20 warheads pretty easily...BUT ...still...if we were attacking china ..why only two missles..if it were an all out war...now what if...an american city had been taken over...by whom i do not know, but what if we were at the point to bomb our own city to save the nation? So far everything points to attacks from the west...if its another nation..the tanks were headed west..everything was headed west...could the chinese have possibly taken advantage of "terrorist" attacks...OR could they have orchestrated the terrorist attacks...and taken over part of the United States...and had an agreement with the remnants of our government to avoid an all our nuclear war? That would explain the US made supplies with Chinese letters and drops, and the two missles leaving Jericho...as a possible counter attack in the last minutes...along with the EMP...and the reason Jerich is recieveing Chinese broadcasts...just imagine if the US had been partly taken over west to east...I could see our crippled gov't agreeing to give up that land and signing an armistice of sorts afer realizing they needed to save what was left of the US...much like cutting a limb off a badly injured person...if the west coast took the brunt of a "terrorist" attack and then was invaded...we would have almost no power to stop them except firing a few ICBM's to establish a perimeter and make an agreement to cease fire...

What about Boston?
If the map drawn by Hawkins son is based on his fathers map then Boston might be gone too. Its the biggest city in that part of the country so its reasonable to assume it was a target.
http://www.jericho-forum.com/showthread.php?tid=88&page=1
Im assuming the producers put that map there for a reason and most other maps seem to hide the area where Boston would be - its either in shadow, blocked by an object or cut off.

What we know is....
OK, thanx for clearing that up... if you would, fix my episode recap for the episode that was on today, clearing that up. Clearly, they did it because they are a religious cult, feeling that America needed to be killed off like the flood in the story of noah (and when i say clearly, i mean i just came up with it as a response, but who knows). And the REAL question is not what killing millions of people justifies, but what justifies killing millions of people? Perhaps someone should look into any sorts of religious references (ie, "JERICHO"). Nice to meet u too, im MJ

What is going to happen?
Hard to say, but the producers did indicate a 2nd wave of attacks (possible season ending cliff hanger?)
I suppose that slowly information about who did it will be slowly revealed, though the producers indicated the reasons may not be fully known by the end of season 1, though we will know what Hawkins involvement actually was.
One of the preview clips shows the barrel in the back of the truck he drove to Jericho and it looks like he did something to the cops who made him open up the truck like knocking them out or something (no gunshots).
Is the barrel one of the nuclear weapons, or do the writers just want us to think that? In the lastest countdown, Hawkins was in New York (as indicated on the Google Earth maps) and may have been somewhere near Sanborn, NY as Sanborn showed up on the satellite map briefly. Im not wondering if Hawkins took the New York City bomb to Jericho.
Speculation abounds!
The producers/writers can go so many places with Jericho - it all depends on that their line of thinking is. Eventually they could expand the series to cover other areas of the world.
Of course how far it does depends on ratings. Jerichos overall plot makes alot of people uncomfortable since most people dont like thinking about how real something like Jericho could be, so it will never get huge ratings with 20 million viewers. But if it can average 10 million or so, it will survive.

What an Episode TONIGHT!!!!
Jericho has got to be the best show I've ever seen. The parallels to America's early beginings are amazing. The scary thing is there are so many parallels to what's going on in this country now. Each episode leaves me hungry for more. I just hope the execs at CBS get a clue and renew this show. They'd be stupid not to. Can't wait to see what they've got cooked up for the next two episodes.

What we Know
I'm originally from Kansas, and I might be able to resolve some of the issues you've seen.
-Nukes are housed all over Kansas. There are military silos spread out all over the state, usually housed in pairs. So pretty much no matter what direction you go from Jericho, you'd run into a silo somewhere along the way.
-If you've never seen western Kansas, it is incredibly flat. No, the people of Jericho would not be able to see the city of Denver, but they might be able to see the resulting mushroom cloud. The mass of gas, from a nuclear bomb, eventually reaches an altitude where it is no longer less dense than the surrounding air and disperses. So it is plausible that, given the flat terrain of western Kansas and eastern Colorado, that the people Jericho witnessed the cloud from Denver.
-The culprits were not Middle Eastern. Hawkins stated before that the bombs were supplied by the former Russian republics, and sold to domestic terrorists. With the Oklahoma City bombing as a testament, the domestic terrorists are just as dangerous as the Islamic fundamentalists.
-One of the bases at which stealth aircraft are kept is Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Knoster, Missouri. It's about an hour southeast of Kansas City.
-The only nuclear power plant in Kansas is Wolf Creek, and it's in the east. It probably doesn't supply power to western Kansas.
-The President and Vice President were together at the time of the attack. The President was giving a speech to the full Congress, which includes the Vice President.
That's just a few things. I hope it helped some.

Maybe The REAL reason Jericho was canceled?
Well.. as a close follower of the 9/11 Truth movement I wonder if it is CBS's decision at all..
Perhaps the idea of a False Flag attack on the U.S Homeland - purpetrated by unethical members of it's own government - hit a little to close to home.
Sure - they could call the amateur and semi-professional 9/11 investigators kooks and communists and outsiders for a time - but recent verifiable forensic evidence - has made this movement catch fire like never before.
Wouldn't be the first time the US Govt. had a hand in cancelling or manipulating a TV show.
It's a real shame too - because a healthty dose of skepticism of one's own government is always good thing for an educated electorate.

What is Rob up to down there?
"Folks "Anonymous" asked a question and put it in my profile. Its about the 9:02 episode...I am going to put it here: It will take two posts.
Let’s see…power on…phones calls from the Asst. Sec. of Homeland Security, Podium (don’t remember what is said…though it was a government seal), Missiles, EMP, and a surprised (or just diligent) Rob has discussion with “someone” about “our targets or theirs?”. I thing I did notice was Rob’s son ask what his Dad was doing about that time…remember Rob was on the computer…. Rob said,…”Daddy was fixing something”…. son said, “Did you fix it?’’….”Daddy’s working on it”. Man…. you have me thinking…no pun intended! What if “someone else” has control or can if they wish control the missiles?" Just in the first 15 minutes of Episode One, I found some answers. Don't forget that all the PREVIOUS nuke movies and miniseries have always given a HINT of the reasons behind the attack BEFORE it happened. After Jake gets off the train in Denver, he goes to a parking garage where he takes the dust cover (and dusty it is) off his car. As he's driving back to Jericho, he puts the radio on. A radio commentor remarks that recent episodes of global violence have pushed the president into taking "extreme action" which the commentator calls "risky." In the Presidential Address on television directly prior to the attack, the PRESIDENT speaks of "fundamental dangers posed by the threat of terror" and goes on to say that "these divisions (DOMESTIC????) pale in comparison to the global threat of terrorism." He says we have promised our grandchildren to protect our way of life, etc., and there are GENERALS sitting in the front row listening to the President. NOW, these ground-detonated bombs have been in place for a long time. It isn't like some foreign country was RESPONDING to the President's risky course of action but hitting their RED BUTTON. Somebody had to smuggle in or assemble these bombs. But we have an EITHER--OR now. We have the "divisions" one could assume to be domestic and we have the "global threat of terrorism." Hmmmmmm. I know when I first watched, the announcer was background noise while I was waiting for the nuke. That's why it's nice to have the episodes online.

What do you thiink of this?
Highly trained field agents spend many years enduring untold suffering for the protection of our country and its people. He does not come across as the type who would turn his back on that. By far most cases of treason happen for reasons of greed, not ideology. He had fore knowledge of an impending attack but not of it's exact location or time. He is involed with shadow ops, a spook not a shooter. The drum, definitely not a nuke. He would not put himself or his health or that of his family at risk. His orginal mission, unkown. His own current objective, to survive. But Uncle Sam, what is left of it wants him back. He does not want leave again.

What happen to our neighbors?
We don't know that they aren't helping. All we know is that they haven't reached Jericho yet. Most of the series is about Jericho discovering what is happening in the world around them. It stands to reason they there is a lot they wouldn't know after only 11 episodes.

What everyone else is saying....
1) Jericho is supposedly on I-70, a MAJOR interstate. Where's all the people from the outskirts of Denver AND Kansas City, since I-70 is by both of them?
2) Less soap-opera romance scenes, no one is really interested. 3) More news of the outside world, even if it was additional fliers in the food drop, or national guard troops. Ok, you have seen 5 tanks, where is the rest of the guard, reserve, civil defense, etc? 4) The other two horsemen, where did they go, or did I miss that?
On a good note: The morse code is cool, and the chinese on the newscast was cool too. It was pretty vague though. Would have been a good place to hide a hidden message. For those of you who are interested: The top of the screen said "Nuclear Attack" and the bottom said "United States of America" pretty boring, but thought you would like to know. The city names were also correct.

Its becoming less of what we were promised
When we the fans were sold the idea of this series we were told it would be about life after a nuclear attack and how that would affect people. It was that way at first. now towards the end of the first half of season one we got something different. The series more and more is ignoring the effects of how a disaster like this would affect people. People look as fresh and clean cut as ever, fuel seems as plentiful as ever, etc... What we are getting are plain soap opera stories. much of the time the story is about basic issues of lust that have no bearing on the attacks. There is no mention of (serious) efforts being made to find out what happened. Obvious things are being ommitted like after 2 months, with the exception of the ravenwood incident and the airdrop there has been NO contact with the world at large. Shortwave and HAM radio would not be totally knocked off the air. With Jericho being on a highway not all that far away from Denver Jericho should have been a staging area for FEMA relief efforts. Hell the Canadian Military should have been in Jericho by the end of week 2 at the latest. So far the vast amount of effort has been who's lusting after whom with storylines like Hawkins and contact with the outside world taking a distant second place. Unless you plan on changing this trend don't plan on writing season 2.
Little by little this storyline is becoming the joke of the internet. You are ignoring all things related to the attacks, information gathering and recovery, myriad common sense items on survival in a post disaster area(the ice making trick was a notable exception there, kudos to that.). Terrorists exploding several nukes would not make the rest of humanity disappear in a flash, pardon the pun!
