Map of Central North America
This map (nice as it is!) is incorrect. According to the flight map on Jake's plane, Texas has become much larger after the attacks. You can see that Jake is near Las Vegas and that the border is very close to his location at the time. It wouldn't have been in the mission's best interest for jake to have flown that far to the south and then make the jog back to Lackland had he not been making a run for the border at it's closest point.

Find the Nielson Households
It would be better to locate who they claim is the 'average' for the rest of North America. No one knows who they are or even if they exist. If we could all talk to our friends and co-workers and get them asking then shortly we would know if they do exist in the numbers that Neilson says they do. Since the reported number fluctuates with such a large variance it could very well be a hoax. I am sure that it was real in the past, but now?
I would rather put pressure on the government officials that allow this monopoly to exist. Collusion between Hollywood and Neilson is a crime if there are better services available. Nuts to Washington?

how did this come to be in the first place
I don't see how these factions started. in the event of a major attack, there is a secretive government organization known as the National Program Office. it provides what is known as "continuity of government" in other words, a backup government if our constitution fails. In the situation that Washington is bombed by suprise (known as decapitation) an unnamed person would assume the presidency and IF NESSASARY could dissolve whats left of the congress, declare martial law and appoint all the officals he needs. I beleive that as long as our constitution is in effect (as is implied for the U.S.A), nothing could push the states to session. If under the N.P.O things become to strict, i beleive that american soldiers would have a hard time taking up arms against other Americans and therefore would not follow such orders. I also beleive that the American people would not allow things to get this far.

Must I choose?
In the last episode, Jake states that with Texas shooting down the two ASA fighters, we are in the second Civil War. Isn't that a bit like saying 9/11 was a Second Pearl Harbor? Neither event was something which consumed a huge part of the society.
Yes, the 23 cities destroyed by the atomic weapons was a huge event, all happening at once, and yet the show singles out one perpetrator, a mole, if you will, inside the government. Everything which follows, even Ravenwood, is a reaction to the event. It's a little too early to say that this means the event was coordinated by the corrupt system. The more intelligent response would be, perhaps, revolt. The people of the country had nothing to do with it. It isn't a polarized society, divided between slaveholders (and sharecroppers) and free members of the industrial north (their ranks swelled with immigrants). There are no good wars. A few astute people have envisioned ways in which the Civil War could have been avoided. Jake's "This means war" attitude might well resemble the excitement of the young men at Scarlett O'Hara's barbeque, who whoop and holler that war has started. It's not a mature response. 9/11 set off a train of events which landed us in Iraq, and helped to foment their civil war, or whatever it is. I could not wish that on my country, no matter how corrupt our leaders. People within the ASA boundary lines are simply unlucky enough to be caught in the way of someone's plans. Do you believe "John Smith" - that he wants to take out Cheyenne? Or is he really in bed with Jennings and Rall? Tune in for Season Three. But I really don't think the American people deserve Another Civil War, anymore than, based on 9/11, the Other Pearl Harbor, we deserve WWIII (nor do the Iraqis and Afghans deserve it). War is politics by other means (Clausewitz). We can still do politics in Jericho.

Norfolk
for about the tenth time: Norfolk/Hampton/Portsmouth/Newport News/Yorktown Virginia make up the world's largest naval installation (not to mention the close proximity of Ft. Eustis, Ft. Story, and Camp Peary). it was not hit (it is not on the J&R map, the black jack map or any map). Newport News is the home of a shipyard (Northrop Grumman). with this key area intact, the United States should be capable of fielding a significant naval presence, including ballistic missile and attack submarines. also, Naval Air Station Oceana is located in Norfolk, with the reach to provide air defense to the capital, Columbus (in addition to the number of surviving air force bases). in summary, the show needs to realize that the United States is not as, for lack of a better term, screwed as they are making it out to be. for the sheer ludicrousness of this suggestion, i feel compelled to write it: the battleship USS Wisconsin is ported and held in ready reserve in Norfolk. If the US were to arm it, the Wisconsin could be flinging shells the size of Volkswagens at the Allied States from off the California coast. let's see them argue with football field sized craters. (yes, i know that suggestion is out there, but you must admit that it is tempting.)

TEXAS REPUBLIC
I am already here in Texas and waiting for Chavez. I believe that Texas has all the resources ncessary to be on their own and it also makes sense that Texas would be the likely place to begin the 'reconstruction' of the country, as it is right smack dab in the middle.

Who could play the President of Texas?
I was thinking more of a cowboy type. Maybe somebody like Sam Elliot. Imagine him talking down to President Tormachio in a gravely drawl. "We ain't going to join the Allied States. We know it was you who organized the attacks and now we're coming after you."

Don't Underestimate the USA
The premise that there is little food, fuel and water in this region is not credible. Let's start with fuel. The area sits on huge coal deposits that were NOT tapped out when oil and gas took over. There's a lot of high-grade anthracite coal etc. Not only that, forests which were cleared generations ago for family farms have grown back. The reason is that the farming moved into the midwest where the soil was easier to work than that of the East (particularly New England). But when that wood gets cut down again, it is a source of fuel, and the opened up spaces are now available for farming again. Railroad tracks (which can easily be repaired with all this timber) can be used again, and the fuel can be coal. This is only the beginning. Water? In the East it comes out of the skies. You can go a long time without watering your grasses, your crops and certainly not your trees. Irrigation is something very simple (sometimes pipes have been found to be made with hollowed out tree trunks, back in a previous century: they still work). So the East is not exactly as challenged as the rustbelt image would indicate. The ability to come together without needing cars and gasoline, by means of rail, still-existing canals from the early 19th century, and by means of river and coasting trades is never going to go away. It's all sitting there to be used. Okay, so there were some nuclear wipeouts. I guess Japan recovered. Go USA!

What about the International Space Station?
What about the International Space Station? If the ISS were on the same side of Earth as the EMP blast, then the crew would very likely be screwed (unless the ISS has its critical systems shielded for EMP). But if the ISS were on the opposite side of Earth as the EMP blast, then the crew would still be in good shape. In the latter case, I suspect it wouldn't be too long before they discover the nuclear attack on the U.S. The crew might even decide to take the emergency Soyuz craft back to Earth since running the ISS may not be practical during a post-nuclear holocaust.

Allied States of America: a subsidary of Jennings & Rall
I think as the episodes keep coming, is it becoming obvious that the Allied States of America is not a nation in the classic sense. It would appear that the ASA is nothing more than a corporate state, owned and operated by J&R.. Everybody knows that corporations aren't democracies. They are businesses and nothing else. The attacks were setup by J&R to create a takeover of America. I tend to also think that not only Valente and Tormachio are invloved, there are people at the very top of J&R who are the ones who are calling the shots. Valente is just the man who organized the whole plot. Tormachio is only there for window dressing. A figurehead. What better way to control a country and it's masses by engineering a terrorist attack.
Maybe I am conveying the obvious here but anybody who is convinced that the ASA is nothing but a corporate state?

Is the ASA an extreme but fictionalized example of the Shock Doctrine?
Is the ASA an extreme but fictionalized example of the Shock Doctrine? You know, the policy in which corporations and the governments associted with them take advantage of a natural or human-made disaster in order to reshape a community or even a nation to a form more to their liking?

Treason
While I've never served myself, I do believe that every member of the US armed forces swears an oath to the uphold the us constitution. With that in mind the only legitimate government after the attacks would be the one led by the next in line for the Presidency of the United States. The constitution is very clear on the order of succession. In addition, there are protocols in place for the replacement of the legislative branch members killed in such a disaster. While there would be some delay, it wouldn't take very long for the true "President" to be identified as well as the surviving other members of congress and the Supreme court.
With all the above in mind and my first comment about the oath and duty of our service men and women, wouldn't it be treason for any of them to support the effort to create the Allied States of America? Now there has to be some assumption that there are some generals involved in the plot but I can't believe that all military units west of the Mississippi would just fall in lock step with the Allied government. Are they just following orders and assuming their generals know the correct course of action? Not to mention I don't believe the Secret Service would support it. This is the only part of the storyline that has been bugging me.
Well that and the EMP that went off in season one weeks after the initial explosion without an explanation or question from the townspeople as to the cause of the EMP.
Okay one other thing. When the missiles were launched against Korea and Iran, who had the codes? is it conceivable that there were 2 sets in the hands of both Presidents? Or was it the president of the US who initiated. I don't think local commanders could initiate a launch sequence.
Okay so if anyone has some good theories on the above, I would like to hear them

Incorrect "blue line"
The mississippi river is on the west side of Illinois which should put Illinois and Wisconsin in the OSA and not the ASA.
