Don't forget the Texas State Guard. It's a civilian auxiliary to the military of Texas.

Other interesting tidbits about Texas. As a former republic, its agreement with the United States when it became a state, allows Texas to split into up to 5 states. I am not sure, but I think that Texas also retains the right to secede without threat of reprisal. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Texas can split up into five states but it cannot secede. I did that already during the War of Northern Aggression (Civil War) and was punished by the Union (Current Federal Government).

The Union ruled that it is against the law for states to secede.

This episode was fantastic! Was anyone else screaming when the F-16's downed the ASA's F-15's. I love the line from the Texas Air Guard Colonel:

"Son, what you were carrying better be important because I think I juist declared war on Cheyenne..."

There's also the Texas Navy, which has more honorary Admirals than it has boats. I wonder how they expected Texas to join the ASA when they'd abolished the Second Amendment from the ASA Costitution. 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Don't forget the Pantex plant near Amarillo where all US nuclear warheads are assembled, The Ft. Worth Lockeed plant makes the F-16 and the stealth fighters. The V-22 and Bell Helecoptors are also made in Texas. The Intelligence School for all brances of the service is at Goodfellow in San Angelo. The Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake controls the satellites. Texas would be a major military asset for either side. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Carswell AFB was changed to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth in 1994. My grandmother lived about 5 miles from it and when I was a kid my cousin and I would stay outside all day to watch the jets fly over. Do you find this valuable?

well considering recent events and threats by Texas we might just see if this is true or not. With the current government the way Season 2 is looking more and more likely to become a reality.

Ok! Past experience told me that a base could be either a "Naval Air Station" or a "Joint Reserve Base" not both. I guess that Naval tradition is a bit stronger than that of the other services!

Note that I said no SPECIAL right to secede. The documents from the time that Texas joined the union did not reserve to it any right to secede that is greater than any other state. Your reference does not dispute that. On right that Texas does have that other states do not is to sub-divide into a total of five states.
Twenty-Ninth Congress: Session 1 -- Resolutions [No. 1.] Joint Resolution for the Admission of the State of Texas into the Union. The document admitting Texas into the Union makes reference to three conditions of admission, one pertaining to borders, one pertaining to defense structures and public lands, and one pertaining to the right to create four additional states.
