If I owned a cable network

My husband and I decided if we ever won the lottery or found another way, we would start our own cable network, FBN Fan Based Network, and the follow shows would be on it, Jericho, of course, but also, Carnivale, Firefly, Enterprise, and for our daily news, Democracy Now and the INN. We decided we'd throw in some indy produced series also, just for fun...

I was thinking the same thing awhile back, but I wanted to call it Cult TV or something like that.

I've been looking at this hard: http://www.cablemaven.com/ talking to a few friends who might want to invest to start one. I mean just look at how SciFi started out. We watched that show (something)2000 every Saturday, where a robot and man sat in the audience and critiqued a B horror flick. My whole family was glued to that show. And that's what SciFi started with.

I have not won the lottery, but starting a cable network, if that's what I really wanted to do, isn't out of the realm of possibility. A few geeks started the Sci Fi network on a shoestring budget, so it can be done. As for why I'd want a cable network, it's to give people what they want, a broad range of shows that make you think, as well as factual news without spin. I think folks would gravitate toward something like that.

Just a note of advice understand the business of cable TV don't start a new network The reason that Jericho is not on another network yet is it has is no production budget Jericho in the first season was an expensive Show by network TV standards all the online stuff plus Cost of production meant that CBS was taking more of a risk. The best thing that could happen For a third season would be an outside production company with money agreed to pay for 26 Episodes for a third season if that happens Jericho could team up with a minor network or a Cable network or could go in to syndication if you win the lottery remember if you take a lump Sum after taxes you will take home only 35-40% of the winnings and to start a cable network Today you will need about 50 million dollars.
