What do you most like about Jericho that keeps you wanting more?
Jun 18 2009, 8:40 PM EDT
I like the relationships between the people. Especially the long term friendships between Jake and Emily and Jake and Sanley. This is what small towns used to be like ( I am small town, rural America) and that way of like is dying, Maybe that is what some people don't get about Jericho. They don't understand that relationships like that really do exhist. That's why I am still here, why I keep wanting and hoping for more. Nothing else on TV satisfies me.

Jericho struck a cord deep within many of us who grew up in the sixties and went through the Cuban missile crisis while we were school children. I will never forget the feeling of total terror and helplessness, that there was nothing that we could do but “duck and cover,” and prepare to die. In school and on t.v. they showed us those films of what a nuclear bomb was capable of doing. Dad said it would never happen, that nobody was that crazy. Zoom to present day - North Korea and that old dingbat who seems hell bent on going out with a bang. Jericho gave me hope that even if the unthinkable did happen, that we at least had a chance. I too love the relationships, the human touch, the Gail Green warmth, the Johnston Green strength, how the towns people grew stronger because of what happened, with a few notable exceptions: Mitchell Cafferty, Goetz, etc.

Has stuck with me all these years. the 60s and early 70s were a scary time. When I see that crazy leader of NOrth Korea on the news I wonder if that is a Jericho in the making. I don’t know what that freak in North Korea is going to do but I think he must be feeling his mortality pretty strongly at this stage and hoping to have one more war before he dies, taking out a few million innocent people with him. I'm just praying that someone talks some sense into him and it ends peacefully.

Jericho has so many amazing aspects it's hard to pin them down. The first thing that drew me to the show was Stanley and how honest and open he is. He drew me in like a vortex. After that it was all about the characters for me, or as madtatter says, the relationships between them. I thought the acting was stunning as well. As I watched more, the deeper implciations of this show began to really make me think. There are so many questions--"What would I do in this situation?" "Is what he/she just did right or wrong?" "Is our government really on the path to being this corrupt?" "Why DO we fight?" "When is it right to stand up and rebel?" "Are the orginal freedoms of the Americans being taken away?" "Are we even able to tell the difference between patriots and tyrants?" And a hundred other questions. This show digs deep. This show is controversial. This show hints on things the government doesn't want us to know. That, and the wonderful characters, is why I love Jericho. Do you find this valuable? |

The fact that they came so close to the truth and being the reason they cancled it tells you that the FED had a lot to do with the stopping of itDo you find this valuable? |

Even a movie won't answere all of our questions. They are going to be at Comi Com in San Diego in July. We will find out the news then. Do you find this valuable? |

I don't think there's anything wrong with a comic book, although a prolonged TV series would be better for attracting a larger audience. And i suppose it makes sense that most people connect much better to real actors and sight and sound, instead of just pictures. Even still, I'd be happy to have a Jericho comic if nothing else.

I thought the series was fantastic. I really liked it. If I was not going to be home, I taped it (don't have tivo), something I rarely ever do. The relationships were paramaount, yet the writers avoided turning it into a soap opera, which easily could have happened. The problems faced by the town's citizens, both the big one of survival and the small everyday ones, were presented in a real manner. Yes, I too believe that this series was ended for reasons other than viewership numbers. But it is true that there are many people who do not like to read, hear, or watch movies, TV show, books, or even conversations about doomsday scenarios. They watch American Idol. I'm glad I read this thread, as I did not know a comic was in the future.

I knew from the start that Jericho would be an important program. It dared to discuss a topic that many people for the past several years, at least since the end of the Cold War,dare not discuss: Is the US vulernable to a nuclear attack? The broad picture, and it's resulting conspiracy was the biggest draw to the show. But the interpersonal stories, Jake and his family, his friends , old( and Possibly new) loves. The community of Jericho, and of course our favorite Wild Card, Robert Hawkins and his family. All of these elements made the experience worth the trip. There are also the inevitable questions that we have all been asking since the show started: Could I survive such an event? Would my family and community be able to continue under such circumstances? Could I believe what governmental and non-governmental motives could be? And most importantly: What Would I DO? What CAN I DO? This seems to me the only reason exists, to ask these questions. Do you find this valuable? |

It has something for everyone. I loved the way they could kind of quiet the action down with one of those moments betweeen Jake and Emily or something crazy with Stanley and Mimi or Stanley and Bonnie having one of their sibling fights. At first I thought it was just paranoia and my already dislike for CBS (Jericho broght be back to them and I lieft when it left) but now I truly beleive the reason for the cancellation goes deeper than ratings. I think they are scared of Jericho. scared that it makes pepole think. I sitll hope someone out there will be brave enough to give it a third season. Just can't give up on that. I believe you are right, but I don't believe anyone will be able to bring it back to TV. Talk about conspiracy, someone or some group with a lot of power saw to it that the series was nixed. The so called 2nd season. I watched but it was not as well written, there was no character development, and since the show's last cancellation there has been no outcry except from the diehard rangers. CBS even cancelled the web page and the discussions. No, the show hit a nerve somewhere, somewhere where power resides.

This is not the first time CBS has killed an excellent show. Back in the late 70's, they made a one hour drama, based on the movie "The Paper Chase" The program brought back the venerable actor/producer John Houseman as Prof. Kingsfield. Houseman began his career as Orson Wells producer at the Mercury Theater, and was instrimental in the War of the Worlds broadcast. Anywho, the show was a critical success, but not a fan favorite, because it was opposite Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley (go figure)My family loved the show, but CBS killed it after 1 season. The only reason there was no outcry from fans was there was no internet to go to if you wanted to voice your displeasure. Apparently, the networks go for the least common denominator, and thus, shows that actually force a person to think, rationalize and feel are left at the wayside. If the majority of the American people are so facile and shallow ,I feel a true fear for the future of our great country. :( Do you find this valuable? |

It started by dealing with some serious issues, but then was allowed to deteriorate into a high school soap as it focused on the relationship of Joan and her beau. There was an excellent cast headed by Joe Montegna and Mary Steenburgen as the parents of Joan and her siblings. The show turned sappy with the focus on Joan and Adam and was cancelled in midseason. Before that it had dealt with some serious issues like teen substance abuse, teen sexuality, the death of teens, as well as being humorous in other areas. Yeah, CBS has a bad record of cancelling excellent drama. It is almost hard to remember that they created Playhouse 90 in the 1950's, an excellent production of 90 minute dramas every week. I loved the first season of Joan of Arcadia. It also made you think, but it went seriously bad in the second season. Can't say I was sorry it was cancelled after the second season cause it was no longer good and there were problems between the star and production compnay. CBS does have a reputation for axing good dramas. NOw that they have the CSI shows and the reality shows going there is not much chance for anything else to make it unless it has relly, really good ratings. Still disappointed Skeet's piolet didn't make it. Thought with the Jake in a comic bood and Skeet in a show falll was lookin pretty good. I had forgotten about the show Paper chase. It wa sgood too.

Next thing you know, BAM were hit with Gilligans Island, and I Dream of Jennie, both funny shows, but not thought provoking. Sometimes I get the feeling the networks don't want people to use their brains anymore. Do you find this valuable? |
