Should “Jericho" spare Barack Obama?

In the logical chain of correlated events that would have occurred in the aftermath of the nuclear attacks, the Obama Administration would not even exist on "Jericho" because Barack Obama, as a Senator from Illinois, would have been killed in the nuclear attack in Washington, D.C., while attending the emergency joint session of the United States Congress about a rise in global violence in September of 2006.
Should the “Jericho” writers consider finding a way to have kept Obama out of Washington, D.C. on that fateful day back in September, 2006 to allow him to become the current President of the United States on "Jericho" as well ( Hawkins would be so proud!) or allow him to have died as a Senator from Illinois?
What do you think?
And how would you have had Barack Obama survive the attacks?
Any suggestions?

Keep in mind, in the hours before the attacks and his death on September 20, 2006, the then Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. was already in the Washington, D.C. area, visiting Georgetown University for the first time (and tragically the last) delivering a speech in Gaston Hall on U.S. energy independence.
Sen. Obama reminded the audience that "in the days after September 11th, Americans were waiting to be called to something bigger than themselves” and said the "battle around energy independence is our chance to step up and serve."
Obama challenged the new generation to take a leadership role in America's goal of U.S.energy independence. The speech, cosponsored by the Georgetown University Lecture Fund, was part of the Progressive Vision Speech Series organized by MoveOn.org.
Sen. Obama then attended a campaign rally at Market Square in Alexandria, Virginia for then Virginia Senate democratic candidate Jim Webb. (Alexandria, Virginia is approximately 6 miles south of downtown Washington, D.C. and was also destroyed in the nuclear attacks. Senate hopeful Jim Webb also died in the attacks.)
The Illinois senator touted Webb's leadership on foreign policy, including his early criticism of the Iraq war.
"The question is are we able to recognize that leadership when it is presented to us?" Obama asked about 500 gathered for a rally at the city's Market Square. "In Virginia we are seeing the emergence of someone we can all be proud of."

My version would be to have Barack Obama experience an unexpected long flight delay while in Columbus on his way to Washington, D.C., causing him to miss all three of his scheduled appearances in the area, therefore surviving the attacks and becoming influential in the choice on Columbus, Ohio as the new capital of the United States while going on to win the 2008 U.S. presidential election anyway.

*TENTATIVE DATE AND TIME OF THE ATTACKS: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 AT 8:05P.M. EDT.
Based on the date that Jericho premiered on CBS, Wednesday, September 20, 2006.

Hawkins would not necessarily be proud that Obama was President - Hawkins doesnt seem like a Neo-Marxist. injecting Obama into Jericho now would be even more disasterous than Season 2 was - ratings wise. Then again, its really a moot point, since Jericho isnt coming back in any form except a comic book. 99% of fans have moved on. The final nail its coffin was lackluster Season 2 DVD sales which didnt even show up in the Top 30 (neither did Season 1, which foretold the coming ratings slide that Season 2 experienced). The final shovel full of dirt on the grave was bad ratings for the CW repeats. Regardless how things turned out Jericho Season One will remain as an example of TV at its best.

You may be correct about everything except Obama being a Neo-Marxist.
I still think that Hawkins would be pleased that a man of color had become President of the United States whether he agreed with his politics or not.
And please remember, the comic book IS keeping "Jericho" alive. I'd prefer a new 22 or more episode television season however.
Actually, I thought Season 2 was better than Season 1 script wise.
