what's the deal with these errors

1. In the episode where they get gas from the farm for the town generator there are two errors. They were worried the gas would spark trying to take off the cap on the steel tank. The only problem is that either they had no reason to worry because fuel had to be diesel and would not explode if the cap made a spark or the generator wouldn't have worked if they put gasoline in it. This is because the valve covers on the generator in the filling shot are clearly from a Cummins motor, a company that only makes diesel engines. Also, the Ravenwood corps who fill their H1's at the farm must have been filling with diesel as well because military Hummers are all diesel. It makes sense that the farm would have a diesel tank for farm equipment but it's been implied that it is gasoline.

2. After the EMP goes off no cars with computer systems will work. In one episode a 90's red chevy pickup truck is seen driving. Even if the engine was not electronic fuel injection (judging by the tailight style is it at least new enough to have OBD1), the transmission is electronic at that point and would be forced into a limp mode where the vehicle could only use second gear. Also a late 90's-early 2000's Ford pickup is the vehicle used to apprehend Jonah.

A while back, I read an article by "Click& Clack" the auto repair brothers on PBS, and someone asked "What was the deal with macho guys all driving diesels"?. The truck you mentioned was probably a diesel, and according to the brothers, the Diesel is considered the ultimate survival vehicle, being that diesel's can continue to run after an EMP. This article was a few years back, so an extensive web search might be in order. Do you find this valuable?
