"I did not think you were being disrespectful; however, CBS keeps harping about the 18-49 age group and I am getting tired of hearing it. CBS is being disrespectful and ignorant. I feel I have another 30-40 years of TV viewing and product purchasing power. I would like good shows to watch same as their 18-49 target group. You wouldn't want to sleep on the floor anyway. It is usually much colder. I noticed he was on the floor and wondered why "they" put him there. Unless of course, he had burned his bed to keep warm. But it would be extremely hard to burn the matress (you would have to cut it up). Most older people would know better. Coal and oil stoves don't radiate heat that well. And someone that age would probably have been raised with such heating sources. Even if they had a coal furnace in the basement, they would have had to pump it upstairs. In most cases, the whole family would sleep in the same room and share that heat source, if there was one. Communial body heat would have been used also. Do you find this valuable? |

"How about in the long term?? Assuming DC doesn't get nuked, how would you get heat or get fuel for cooking?? I am not talking about age here. I am asking in reference to urban survival. There are no forests to cut wood in. Gas stations are out of gas. The power grid is shot. You would have to be creative. Use a grill - but ONLY if you could find a way to exhast the fumes. You would have to leave windows open (cold!) but it would still be too risky!!! You would have to take your grill outside to cook anything. You can get specially made pads for wood burning stoves - to be placed under them to protect from hot ashes falling on the floor. Even if you don't have a wood burning stove, you could use it to place a secure heating source on. BUT ONLY WHILE YOU ARE AWAKE!! You would have to make sure the fire was out before you went to sleep. Check the hardware/home heating stores for the various, portable, emergency type supplies. You could get the information you would need from them or various manufacturers. 06/15/07 1:28pm central Do you find this valuable? |

I had just figured he had fallen, couldn't get up, and pulled some blinkets that had been on the floor over him. And burning the matress theory should be out, because there was plenty of other fuel sources to burn in that house. Semper Fi HJ 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I had to go to a Lowe's north of the city (I live south of the city) to get mine; however, they still had more left."You might want to check Lowe's online. "You might be able to soak wood a little with the gas or some oil and get a fire going (away from the car of course) Learn how to build a lean-to, even to block wind from the car. Watch the smoke."Yes you could use it to start a fire. Do you find this valuable? |

"gas burns for a very long time. i think you need to look past your bias against it (though i concede you've got a good reason not to like it). "NO, gas does NOT "burn for a very long time." Gas is used to start fires. The gas in your car would burn quickly, evaporate, or possibly cause your car to explode. The gas in your car is only good for starting a fire. It is NOT a fuel source. You would still need wood to keep the fire burning. COMMON SENSE IS NOT "BIAS." Do you find this valuable? |

"You might want to check Lowe's online. Not all of the stores had them and they were on clearance."There is a store in a nearby town that specializes in those types of stoves. I will just have to get it in gear and go check them out. No doubt they will cost more, but they have all types - they would use all types of fuel. It would be worth the cost tho I think to cut back on gas. 07/08/07 2:07 pm c Do you find this valuable? |

"Unfortunately such is not the case everywhere! Illinois is a VERY backward state!!! Many of the things you wrote about would be discouraged and taught as wrong. Archery would be suspect and GUNS - heven forbid - don't even mention teaching someone to use a GUN. OH MY GOD!!! That is a "sin"! If our state government had their way, no one in Illinois would own let alone even SEE a gun! (for any reason). The GOVENOR OF CHICAGO, Blago, would totally freak. 06/12/07 4:01pm centralYou must be talking about Chicago. I have family in Springfield and Aurora. The area between Chicago, Springfield, and Indianapolis is very isolated and the roads are bad. This is farming country and I can not believe that none of those farmers have guns and/or bows. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Either the fumes kill them or they set the place on fire. The "pads" are a good idea though. "Be creative" but limit the use of a grill as much as possible. Also, grills need a fuel source. Solar cookers use no fire and can be used on balconys, rooftops, or in the backyard. Solar window boxes can be constructed and attached to apartments (either inside or outside). These could provide much of the heat needed without finding or hauling fuel. Do you find this valuable? |

"You must be talking about Chicago.RIGHT ON TARGET! You are good! Chicago rules the rest of the state - and takes the largest chunk of tax money as well. The Govenor is from Chicago (his wife refuses to move to the state capital mansion so we end up paying for two "mansions". That is why we also call him the "Govenor of Chicago" that is all he really cares about. There are very few cities here that disallow guns. Most of those that do are around Chicago. There is a rebellion of a sort here as well. Two counties have declared that they WILL NOT enforce any un-CONSTITUTIONAL gun laws/bans. Those counties are PIKE and BROWN. They sent their resolutions to the county clerks of the other 99 counties. There are plenty of guns here but we are not allowed "concealed carry" . Illinois is one of two states in the whole country who doesn't have conceal carry. See what I mean by BACKWARD?! There are many gun and archery programs and clubs here. Just don't take them to Chicago. Unfortunately a woman from out of state (not knowing IL is backward) was arrested at the Sears Tower because she was carrying a .38. She had a legal conceal carry permit from her home state but it is no good here. SAD! 07/08/07 2:41 pm c 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We have 'concealed carry" permits in Ohio; however, businesses can still ban guns. This means you have to lock up your gun in your car before you enter the restaurant or other business. Then you have to worry about someone stealing it while you eat. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Sounds like you need a new governor. Illinois is not exactly a "rich" state. The entire state needs his attention.True. I can't believe they voted him in for a 2nd term (well Chicago did). He blows the states money then comes up with the wildest schemes to come up with more to "balance the budjet". More and more businesses are leaving the state because of the taxes, unemployment deductions, etc. Old "Blago" is killing this state. But Chicago is pretty much taken care of tho. Now they are trying to get the Olimpics here (Chicago). With Blago and the Daily (Chicago mayor) machine (did someone say "corruption"?) IL is doomed. Obama is another Chicago politition. Guess who I will NOT vote for in the Presidential run!? If I could afford it I would move. Indiana is better, and my daughter lives there. Oh, well. 07/09/07 1:15 am c Do you find this valuable? |
