Altruism is alive and well, it just needs more volunteers. If you want to pull altruism back into your life, consider delivering meals on wheels to seniors in your community. I do it every other week, and I take my kids with me when they aren't in school. It gives them a greater view and a stronger feeling of "community". I pray that I am raising my kids to be altruistic. You can do it ,too. Do you find this valuable?

"Good points all. I'm glad that the administration is planning a slow withdrawel. Thats what i was hoping for. A fast and speedy withdrawel would simply undo all that our guys have worked for. A slow one could work for us and the Iraqi government. We're getting our guys back, and they may smell the roses and wake up and see they gotta actually work! No, i don't believe this will be another Vietnam. We were pretty close to it for a while, but i think the surge has really changed things over there. I wonder what some democrats are thinking. All the time they said to pull out now cause all is lost, and they wanted us to leave in defeat. Now we'll be leaving in success on our part.

And have yall heard about North Korea? You know how they said they'd drop their nuclear program for aid and to be taken of the list of "enemies"? Well, there are reports going around that they've been trying to help Syria develop its nuclear program! They've given them secrets and sold them a nuclear facility. But some people are wondering where Syria got the money and the manpower to develop nukes. Here's my thought: Iran is pulling the strings, trying to get attention over to Syria while they work on their own nukes. But thats just my thought...

Oh absolutely. North Korea wants to blow us up almost as much as Syria.

I'm really glad, of course, that our government keeps its "secret agents" secret, but at the same time I would love to know WHAT WE ARE DOING UNDERCOVER TO STOP NUCLEAR WEAPON MAKING.

Sometimes I wonder if we're doing anything AT ALL.

I also muct question China's intent toward us. Tainted food, lead in the paint used on children's toys, etc. I think we might have more enemies posing as "friends". I can't prove it of course, it's just a feeling I have.

North Korea wants us blown up way more than Syria. Syria's got the Israeli's in there sites first, N.K.? We're #1 on their's.

The government has funny ways to end stories without anyone ever hearing about them. What I mean is this,
5-10 years ago you8 heard a lot of concern about the Russians "losing" a nuke, or the infamous "Backpack" Nukes that were just lying around.
In todays world, you don't really hee about it axcept in Hollywood. Why? The US Gov. paids BILLIONS in cash to secure those devices. Not really an issue anymore.
Another example, althought its not nuke related, is everyone is familiar with BlackHawk Down right? The Warlord we were going after that was the cause of it, Mohammed Adid. Well the CIA took care of him about a year or two after the event. Assassinated him and then put his son, who was also a US soldier, in power of the clan.
With the government, things sometimes DO have a way of working themselves out.
I guess another example would be Libya. They had or were at least building a nuke reactor. They also in the early '90's had a chemical warfare plant that mysteriously blew up.
Needless to say, when the US reminded Libya of that, in nice language of course, theyscrapped their nuke ambitions.
Suffice it to say, I, have not one shred of doubt that leads me to believe that they are NOT doing all they can. As far as wanting to know about it? I don't think people could handle it if they knew. Because then they'd be protesting against the CIA for keeping them safe. Too many people want a Black & White answer and simply don't want to see Grey.

The thing to be worried about is the continued purchase of US companies like they have been doing. That's where things go bad.

True. They get in and have a better chance to learn how things are done, laws, ports, various forms of transport, who does what, when, and where, etc. Chances they wouldn't have from the outside. A "base of operations?" Perhaps the elimination of competition thereby limiting production of some products by others, and the means to produce certain things? Others that I haven't thought of......

I'm not trusting China at all. There have been too many different items tainted with lead too many times. It just doesn't seem that accidental to me. But that's just my opinion.

Well, I don't unhonestly think that these things are being done intentionally. It would go against a master plan that MAY look a little like this;
China continues buying up American companies, companies you never here of, small tech companies, small industrial companies etc. Looking at it in its face dosen;t reveal much and you don't think much of it until someone cathces on that this company makes small parts for the f-22, or this company's produces software for this one certain type of radar, follow where I am going with this? The US continues outsourcing its jobs to India and China etc. This continues quietly for a couple of years until one day China says we want Taiwon back. Tensions get hot and the Chinese buisnesses close up shop.
Economically they have blackmailed us.
I guess imagine if the Sherman tank in WWii was manufactured by a German company or the Liberty ships were constructed in Japan, BEFORE Dec. 7th 1941.
We could not replace them overnight and our Industrial Cap. would have been severely damaged.

I understand what you are saying and agree, but what i meant was that maybe the guys running the government were taking their own form of action w/o the government's involvement. You follow?

Private factions with the right connections and enough money can be just as dangerous (maybe even more so) as governments. Governments are watched a little more closely than private citizens are. Which could get away with more? (Without being caught) before the deed is done?

Freaky feeling! We had better pray (or hope) for other independent companies that haven't sold out and might be able to supply needed items.

I hope so as well. I just honestly don't trust the companies in China. They could be (and i'm just saying) getting secret government funding in exchange for tainting stuff. I honestly doubt it, but they are the chinese.

Something's going on. Too many "accidents", too many recalls. All at once. Strange! Is it a "test"? Leading up to something else, or could it really be coincidence? Only time will tell. (?)

I don't trust China or Russia. Putin used to at least act like he was a "friend", but no longer. His verbal attacks on Bush have shown a different side of him. (That is not to say that that I like Bush all that much myself, but, you know -- he's still our President.)

Don't get me started on Putin and Russia. All i can say is that if we get into another cold war (or worse) they'll be to blame. They've been doing a lot of stuff recently i recall the SOVIETS loving to do. Can you say coup? I hope not, but you never know with russia.

If I had too guess, I'd say its a bit of a bluff. They're just tryin to get Russian Patriotism and a sense of pride restored.
Their economy cannot support any large scale arms build up.

Don't they have oil fields too? I believe they are up to something. Selling, trading, etc. Making "friends" with other questionable countries. I just don't know......

Most of their oil is found in the Caucasus's in the south. Those lands are seperate countries now, Azerbejian, Checnya, Turkministan etc. These qere once part of the USSR but seceded after its downfall. Much of Russias oil come's from imports. Thats another reason why they are a main supplier of miltary and nuclear tech to Iran,
