Economics and Warfare

The dirty little secret to all this is that all wars are economic in nature. It has been pointed out quite clearly that this attack was likely an attempt to cripple the US and other nations by destroying finanacial or trade centers. The WTC was attacked on 9/11 because it was an economic and political target according to Bin Laden and his deputies. They sought to cripple Western economies and force US withdrawal from Islamic lands. You have to note that Bin Laden is a believer in the historical version of Islam from about the 9th century. At that time much of present day Europe was Islamic lands.

As I stated earlier wars always have an economic component. Hitler wanted to conquer Europe and establish a German 1,000 year Reich to wield both military and economic power. You can't successfully have one without the other. Guns, bombs, and missles cost money. The Roman empire was as much an economic enterprise as a military one.

It has also been pointed out that both China and Russia would be unlikely to see any real economic benefit from attacking the US in this manner. It would not be in their best interests today. At the time of this attack, maybe things have changed.

My vote is that the conflict was initiated by those that thought they would benefit from it. That means North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Libya, and world terror organizations like Hamas. Pakistan and India are also potential sources of materials or conspirators. The plotters have to see this as gaining them something while risking them little, otherwise why do it? I'd say Venezuela, Iran, with technical help from terror groups and Pakistani nuclear scientists. The goal cripple the US and set the stage for Venezuelan communist domination of South and Central America and to allow Iran to grow unimpeded into an Islamic superpower controlling much of the world's oil and gas reserves. The next step for Iran would be the destruction of Israel while the EU writes a strong letter of protest.

While I agree with you in principle, the fact that the bombs were relatively small and packed in vans eliminates a lot of players. The terror organizations are the only ones on your list that don't have - and probably can't get - missiles. Also - the devastation isn't consistent with 20KT ground burst devices, which I think is probably just uninformed writers. A 20KT device is small - Hiroshima size. Set off on the ground it's not going to take out a city the size of Denver - not even close. Lots of mistakes in the writing so far, so I can't predict what the outcome will be - only what it should not be. And the writers didn't know North Korea's nukes were duds when they wrote the pilot so if it's them it's an afterthought. Do you find this valuable?

Keep in mind folks that the US feeds 1/3 pf the world with little available to pick up slack from Argentina, Australia, Canada. If US in Jericho is what it is... in the fictional world of course... than that winter a billion or so starved to death, or nearly so... have not you ever wondered why China finds it in its interest to be our buddy? We FEED THEM --- go to US Ag Dept and see who we export soy beans to!
