I'm stumped

I didn't really know what I thought if Eric at first, but once I figured out he was a cheater I was determined to hate his guts. The weird thing is, the more the series progresses, the more of Eric's character we see...and for the most part I like it. I can't stand inconsistancy. Eric is so up-straight, such a hero, always defending people, almost lkie a knight. So how, how on Earth, could his character lapse to the point of falling in love with another woman? It makes no sense! I'm stumped! Eric is too weird for me. How could be so evil? 3  out of 13 found this valuable. Do you?

You can only up to others high expectations for so long before you snap. Eric eventually had to start living for himself. I believe he's been trying to be the Green's perfect son AND make up for Jake's shortcomings. We probably haven't even met the real Eric, yet. Do you find this valuable?

Why would I think WHAT? That Eric seems like an upstraight character, or that he is inconsistant? I think he's pretty moral because
1. He defends his father on episode 1
2 He protects Mary's Bar on episode 2
3 he was the first one to come through the Mine to save the people on episode 3
4 He went into a burning building to save Heather and a kid on episode 5
The list goes on, but I don't wanna bore you.

Cheating doesn't make you evil. We don't know much of the state of his marriage when his affair with Mary began, only that April had decided to file for divorce. He obviously wasn't happy and it doesn't appear that he went around chasing skirts, merely to have frivolous sex while married, he FELL IN LOVE with someone else. Yes, it sucks, but I think we've seen enough of Eric's character to know that he's a good man. Maybe they'll give us a glimpse of how he and Mary got started. I'm willing to bet there was quite a long history of them trying not to get involved with one another. Haven't seen much of Mary's character yet, but she seems to be a decent person as well.... just caught up in a horrible situation.
Honestly, I sort of expect his relationship with Mary to fizzle, given his overwhelming grief over the loss of his wife (he still cared about her) and their child.

It doesn't make him an inconsistant character. It makes him human. Not even the Knights of the Round Table were upstanding heroes all the time. If he were an infallible character, that would be hard to stand. Do you find this valuable?

You can't hate Eric because Eric is "everyman" while Jake is who "everyman" wants to be. The backlash over Eric leaving April was laughable... for whatever problems they may have had, and God knows sometimes it IS t he woman who is at fault... she was the one who had filed for divorce and gone far enough to actually have the papers drawn up. Maybe she had cheated on him first? Maybe the baby wasn't even his? I guess as a guy who made the mistake of marrying "the wrong woman" and ended up leaving after over a decade of trying to "make it work" and being labeled "that bastard" because she would never stand up and admit to the families that half of our fights were started by her... argh... why not hate April for breaking up the marriage and being glad that she's dead and Eric has a good woman to love?
