"There is the issue of how to stop it. putting of a fence is right now the best alternative, but it would look like the berlin wall to some. There really isn't any other practial means to use. Putting the whole national guard down there as border patrol would look horribly bad, and if ever used should be saved for the most extreme situations of extreme situations. And i'm suprised no one has thought of nukes being snuck in that way. Seeing how many have gotten by, it wouldn't be that hard to sneak in a suitcase nuke. And (this may sound like racial profiling, but it isn't) some arabic terrorists have looked similar to mexicans. Stick a hezbollah guy with a dozen mexicans crossing the border, and he wouldn't stick out a whole lot. And, back to how many have gotten in so easily, if they don't get caught and no one saw them get in, then who would be chasing after them? NO ONE! And if thats the case, they could easily make it to Houston or Dallas in a day or two.I agree again whole heartedly with you. HOWEVER, I hate to veer from this train of thought, lets not forget that many of the issues we have had with potential OR actual terrorist have been those that have come to this country OR are currently residing in this country. Look at the two guys who were arrested in New Jersey after plotting to "kill as many soldiers" as they could at I think it was a naval base. These guys were here legally. The hijackers on 9/11. All here on work visas or with green cards We can erect all the walls we want. However, until our government grows up and actually does the job we expect them to do and the job they are elected and paid to do, we will never be safe. It therefore becomes the job of every single citizen of our great country to become the watch dogs. To watch out for each other. Who else can we count on? Again, probably another point that the producers were trying to make with the show! Its our jobs to take care of ourselves, our own and each other! I personally am glad to have met you all here on the wiki cause in a real world situation similar to Jericho, I know my back would be covered as well as yours! Do you find this valuable? |

"I agree again whole heartedly with you. This is a "virtual brotherhood" in many ways. I'm glad to have found this place as well. And here is the cold hard truth: there is no such thing as total safety. Sure, things could be done better. A LOT better. But as long as there are madmen and lunatics on earth, no one can ever be absolutely safe. We're fortunate that some of the major attacks that have been planned since 9/11, the ones that could absolutely tear this country apart, have been stopped. And it's a great thing that those 2 guys were caught before we had another slaughter fest like what happened at Virginia Tech. Personally, my opinion is that it's a loose-loose situation. If the government (and this applies to either party being in charge) did everything it could to end terrorism, some liberties may and would be lost in the process. If they did whatever they could without sacraficing any liberties, the chances of terror wouldn't decrease any from where it is now. I'm hoping, though, that somehow, we can crush terror without loosing our freedoms. But, it will be hard. Franfan, please add some optimism to this! Semper Fi HJ Do you find this valuable? |
