"WOW another pro. Good info there. but I have to ask on the publication dates. As you say, the documentation mentions the Soviet Union, so some of the information will be based on a total launch scenario, and the result would not be the same as a single ground burst explosion. Also. I would rethink the option of the west coast being safest to locate to, being the North Korea has missles capable of hitting Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.
Still, a Jericho situation is drastecly diffirent from a total exchange."
Absolutely. The weapons used are much smaller and not as dramatic as the show makes out to believe. Check out the following site http://www.zvis.com/nuclear/nukimgdht.shtml
It shows a couple of 20kt. explosions, you can see that compared to the mushroom cloud used in the show, it is much smaller in real life. Jericho did that for dramatics.

Now getting back to how to track and make sure your community IS ready.
Volunteer! Weather spotters, Community Emergency Response Teams (the new Civil Defense) this is how you can make sure your community is ready.

I am pleased that our county emergency management believes in actually being ready.
We now have shelter materials, working LARGE generators, fuel, flood lights, communications, etc. all because we have volunteers. So taking a snippet from a well known speech...
Ask not what your country can do for you... ask what you can do for your country,
be active in your local government, otherwise it won't be active for you.
I appreciate our neighbors and being part of something that can help in a time of crisis such as icestorms, blizzards, floods, etc... It's good to be prepared, take advantage of it!
So get started, and don't forget -prepare at home first - can't help if you're not ready.

I have contacted my County Citizens Corp. Unfortunately, they just recently received funding and are just getting started (slowly) even though they received authorization a year ago.
I contacted them over two months ago, left my personal contact info, but haven't been called yet.
I have NO idea how far they have gotten. Doesn't sound good to me. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon. (We are in "Tornado Alley")

Sorry I havn't been around for a while, other issues came up. But i wanted to tell you about a short article in the Jan/Feb 08 issue of History Channel magazine. p.52 "Fallout Shelters Revisited"
the art. talke about Huntsville Alabama reooling an abandoned mine into a massive shelter, as wel as other community shelter plans on the boards. The info is pretty straight forward, with the exception that survivors are instructed to bring their own supplies.
You should be able to read this on the historychannel site.

Heres something I have to check out. I was talking to my mother the other day about Jericho, and she mentioned something about NORAD/ Cheyanne Mtn, in Colorado Springs. According to a History Ch. program "Underground Cities" the complex is being shut down. I find that hard to believe, in that NORAD is the HQ for the Space Command, and operates all of the US recon satellites. If anyone else has more info on this, please fill me in. I will be checking around for this story. Do you find this valuable?
