Hey everyone, sorry I.ve been out of the loop but my Museum job wont let up. i recently had to do some research for a nature trail we just opened up, and i came across this good website, www,botanical.com. They provide good info. on using plants for medicinal purposes. I thought this might be useful for some of you. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Sandbagger, great resource! Many people would be surprised at some of the plants that can be used, and by the uses of those plants. The health benefits and healing properties of so many plants could put drug companies out of business if enough people knew about them and started growing/hunting them for home use. Some of my friends and I have been talking about this subject at work. There are many books that "talk" about the various plants and their uses. Anyone planting a garden for fruits and vegetables should expand them to include other plants - herbs and spices. Many can be injested, other would be topical only. They would be much safer than manufactured drugs. And cheaper! (TAKE THAT! BIG GREEDY DRUG COMPANIES!!!! ) ; ^ p 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Flowers are not just for the psyche! Many of the old heritage flowers were in some way edible, and most were medicinal. A few examples: Heritage rose hips (the bulb at the bottom of the rose) are loaded with vitamine C; Echinacia (Purple Cone Flower) is great for the imune system; Marigolds were used for a host of things; Lavendar is another "Beneficial Herb". The list of beautiful and useful plants goes on and on.

"For those who wish to discuss the ins and outs of aftermath survival"If I was you I would be more worried about do I own a boat & do I live on a flood plain, global warming is a far greater threat than ,nuclear war at this time or so I believe. I think that people all around the world are beggining to feel a sense of discomfort with day to day life no one seems to really trust there governmant & there seems to be a sense of impending doom as if were all waiting for the other shoe to drop . Move to mountainous terrain they will protect you from a nuclear blast if your on the opposite side when it detonates you can climb it when the floods come , your near a water source most rivers begin in the mountains also water running over stone has a natural purifying effect never urinate or wash yourselves or clothes in the river as those contaminats are washed down stream always carry water away for these tasks. A good water filter can be made from a clean sock sand & charcoal layer sand charcoal sand charcoal etc filling the sock until 3/4 full then pour you water through from top to bottom to filter. food stores are good but its best to crack on now to start a replenishable supply so get planting , basic drugs should be stock piled if your starting a survival group try to include a nurse or doctor. Camoflage your crops and dwellings and always have at least one fall back position with supply's 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

HOWEVER; Nuclear War, while being somewhat less likely, is the more immediate threat. Here's why. Global warming will take a decade at the very least, and more likely a century, to have a serious impact. That gives us time to prepare. A nuclear war will have an immediate impact, one that we can only be partially prepared for, with little time to play catch-up. Not to mention the probable nuclear winter that will surely follow. That would make the mountains a dubious safety zone. Do you find this valuable? |

But I can remember hotter summers, wetter, dryer, colder, and even "perfect" seasons. It's mother nature. And, yes, I do feel it is hotter in the summer now, but when I was younger, we didn't have A/C in our house so I was used to the heat and it didn't bother me as much. (Also, I'm much older) Do you find this valuable? |
